I just bought my used 2012 PIP Base with 51,200 miles and the EV miles after charge shows up as 10.5, but I routinely get 14. Strange.

Are the recent posters in this thread referring to the fairy tale EV range on the Hybrid System Indicator display? At best, it is a rough guess based on recent driving patterns, and has little to do with how far one actually can go in EV mode.

Mine usually shows 10.5 but not always.

"In EV mode, the car will shut off the engine if traveling about 61 MPH or less".

I have had my PIP on the Highway and gone up to about 65 without the engine engaging. I know the speedometer reads higher than actual speed, but that seems pretty good. I can cruise on the Interstate in town, as the speed limit is 55 MPH, in all EV, if I can keep it about 65...the battery drain isn't too bad either.

    How best to use EV?

(I had the car for over 1 month now, so I am a noob).

Accelerate with gas and manually switch over to EV and cruise ?

    Never use EV to accelerate?

    If in traffic, use EV?

BTW, when I first got my car, it use to show 10 EV. Recently, it started showing 11 EV, now, it went down to 10.8, then 10.5, and I assume it will continue to go lower.

Seems where i use to charge my car, it is a slight decline road going home. (Got to 11EV)

Now I am charging somewhere else, and the EV is getting lower because going home now is a slight incline road. (10.5 EV and declining).

If you can do the whole trip in EV, use EV. Otherwise, use EV on downhill areas, or any time the car doesn't require much throttle. The gas engine is best used for acceleration and going up hills.

I always use the first 10% of the range before switching to gas so that I can regenerate energy when coming to a stop. The car won't recapture energy if the battery is full, and charges at a much slower rate when near full.

On long road trips I like to keep about 6 miles of range just in case I run out of gas.

Your guess-o-meter will show increased range as you practice efficient use of EV mode.

My winter low this year was 10.1

So far this spring, it had climbed up to 13.1

I don't expect the estimate to go much higher. That had been the annual pattern for 4 years now.

My swing seems to go as low as 13 indicated in winter, and as high as 17 in summer. I just started making most of my work commutes on EV alone. During the winter I fall a mile short, and during the summer I have 1-2 miles surplus. I might even get to use a few minutes of AC with the spare juice.

I'm only getting around 9 miles so far, but still getting used to the car (just got it last week). One thing I've noticed is that for whatever reason the European PIP has an EV maximum speed of only 85 km/h (53 MPH), which explains why the ICE was kicking in much earlier for me compared to what I read here.

My normal commute includes a dual carriageway with a 100 km/h (62 MPH) speed limit - maybe I should reconsider my other route (all 50 km/h, heavier traffic, but shorter)? Or should I switch to HV mode altogether on the 100 km/h sections? My commute is 7-10 km depending on route.

Yesterday was the highest estimate I have ever seen it 13.6

Sadly, I have no idea what the actual EV miles would have been. I didn't drive far enough yesterday... just a short run into town for ice cream.

I have to say , I love this car it was hard letting my 650hp Pontiac GTO go , but 12 mpg wasn't cutting it , and two of my riding partners diying on motorcycle accidents , it was time for some change ,
