anyone buy dealer rust/sound proofing for 2016 v (lowercase v)?

    We just bought a 2016 prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) - our first hybrid. The dealer was selling us the 2yr extended warranty (to bring it to 5 yrs) for $2500 and also the undercar rustproofing (layer of rubbery black stuff) for $800 CAD. I was a bit put off that a new car would need extra rust protection. She said it also decreased sound by 60% but we haven't seen any documentation on that claim. We are in snowy Ottawa.

    Did anyone do the dealer-sold rustproofing to their car or is it really needed?

    Has anyone experienced lots of repairs in year 4 and 5?

    Extended warranty (aka insurance) deals are good for the salesperson, sales manager, dealer and insurance company, not for the car owner. Estimates from the best known consumer product reviewing organization says that extended warranty companies pay out 30% of what they take in in repair costs. You get far better odds in a casino.

    Modern cars are rustproofed from the factory. Ever seen a rusted out Prius?

    The toyota extended warranty is sold for $1000 by some dealers. Consider that alone and I would agree saving your money is the best choice.
