the OEM battery lasted near 4 years IIRC. the replacement one started giving me problems (low battery) after 1 year. i replaced it again, but realized it was a battery connection problem as the new battery would work intermittently. i greased the battery connections with dielectric grease and everything was fine till now (6 month later).

now, the fob sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't (dead like a stone). i know it's not a low battery because i can wiggle the fob plastic body in my hands and it will work again fine.

i'll take it apart for cleaning, but is there something else i should be doing with it (like the full machine wash/dry cycle like some the PC members do)?

sounds like a bad battery. Maybe you should get it from a different vendor?

I'll take it apart and measure the voltage tonight.

    any other ideas?

I've experienced those symptoms you're describing, it always ends up being a bad battery

exactly the same symptoms? with the wiggling/banding the fob temporarily fixing the issue?

Well, I do that wiggling/banging thing to my garage door openers that don't respond. That always ends up being a battery problem.

you are probably right. the old came out with 3.0V. the new one was 3.3V. this was from a batch of cheap, no brand batteries that apparently had expiration date 12/2015. knowing this won't last long, i'm ordering fresh ones, a major brand.

the "new" (Chinese, no brand) battery lasted almost 3 months. put new 3.3V, major brand (Maxwell) batteries in in both fobs (the spare was dead like stone). will see how long it will last.
