I was hoping one of you owners of a '16 Prius would kindly look in your user's manual & tell me what the required oil filter element is for the newest 1.8L engine.

Bottom line, is it the same cartridge filter element (04152-YZZA6) that is currently used in the Gen 3?

I have an entire case of these & was hoping they would be compatible on the Gen 4 I was thinking of buying.
    Thanks in advance.

I doubt there's anything in the Owner's Manual on the subject; there wasn't with 3rd gen.

There was something on a US Toyota site about oil change instruction, can't recall exactly.

The new engine has the same designation as the Gen 3: 2ZR-FXE?

but, but... Toyota claims it's thermal efficiency jumped from 38.5% to 40%. Surely this big 1.5% TE jump warrants a new engine designation.
Being a cheapskate, I'm just trying to put this case of oil filter cartridges to good use.
I'll swing by the dealer tomorrow...

There's nothing stopping them changing the oil filter though, though. I'd contact a dealership parts department for definitive answer. They might not know till the first wave start coming in for oil changes. I'd guess the filters are the same, but who knows.

All this debacle is down to your "Costco" buying ways, lol. It's cargo cult to buy a case of oil filters, what with the US change interval and typical ownership intervals.

Well, there were a LOT of changes to the engine. I'm not sure if the new parts look the same, but there are many that have "coatings", "redesign", different materials, etc. Maybe the new filter is also teflon coated. ;)
In Toyota documents they call it a "new engine". It may look similar on the outside but there are many changes inside.

Sorry, doesn't answer your question. But the dealer parts dept. can with a simple phone call.

I just bought one from Longo Toyota in CA (one of the best dealer), it's the same part number. I'll be doing the 1,000 miles oil change soon.

Are you talking about the oil filter housing, or the plastic bit they clip onto the top of engine?

That would be different from the manuals of past cars I have had. They at least give the OEM part number.

North American cars? Never saw a oil filter part no with our Hondas. Spark plugs yeah.

Appears that I was mistaken. Seems odd to have what standards the motor oil has to meet, but not include the filter part number. The catalogues in the stores had the gen2 Prius using the same filter as the Corolla, but the OEM one was taller than the off the shelf one.

At least the dealerships have the part no (and the part) readily available, so no sweat there. What bugs me is that an oil change instruction is not included in Owner's Manual, as often as not. Honda's pretty good in that regard: our 06 civic had a pretty thorough instruction, even spec'd the torque values, commendable:

The top shroud on top of the engine. It was a tounge-in-cheek comment following the prior ones... ;-)

Yes, the oil filter for ZVW50/51 is the same one for ZVW30 and many other cars.

So the OP with his "case" of oil filters dodged a bullet. But really, oil filters are something you don't want to stock up on: how many years are you going to have the car, who knows.

It is also the same one for Corolla & Matrix from 2008, Scion XD, Scion IM, Prius V, PiP, Lexus CT200h
So you can buy more Toyota cars to finish the entire case:ROFLMAO:
