Edit Ok. Successfully replaced caliper (SUPER EASY), and bled (also super easy thanks to nutzaboutbolts video).
No brake warning lights or anything.

Not as much drag/noise....but still hums when I drive.

    Yeah......PITA

On a positive note.....I can tear apart these brakes (and bleed them) in my sleep.

To take a rear hub off you at least don't have to open up the caliper lines, or disconnect parking brake, again. Just unbolt and pull back. To get the rotors off if they're rusted on: there's a couple of threaded holes in the center, screw in a pair of M8x1.25 bolts, alternating between them, till it pops loose.

When I did this I was not 100% sure I had the right thread pitch, and it was rusty enough to keep you wondering. I found just screwing it in as far as reasonable, then backing it out and blowing out the dust, and repeating, it gradually cleared the threads and got through.

Also, before removing the hub disconnect the electrical lead: more than one have snapped the connection off when the hub broke loose, I've heard. I've only removed the rotors, btw.

Somebody posted here a while back about using a largish threaded rod, nuts and some plate washers, in conjunction with the large holes in the hub, to help pop off the hub if it's frozen. Can't recall exactly, but there's a thread here. I'd guess it's in the 3rd gen maintenance forum.

    Merged.

    This is it I think:

    Thanks folks!

I've done all 4 hubs on my '05 Subaru Outback (about to crack 150,000 miles).

Just ANOTHER part to buy, LOL

I'm wondering if maybe the parking cable was seized -- do you think that was your problem? Maybe you parking brake was causing brake drag.

    Yep.
    Not in that order, though.
Need to disconnect 12V to remove calipers. Once installed, reconnect 12V and enter invalid mode to bleed.

Thanks again for the invalid mode video!!
