In the Australian Brochure, there is only one red - called "EMOTIONAL RED".

In the brochure, there are 7 photos of RED cars, and 5 of all the other colours together.

In the Mazda 3 brochure, there are 44 photos with RED cars, and about a dozen photos of all the other colours altogether. Not long ago, when I asked about a RED car, the Mazda saleslady said that they never sell RED cars - I responded by pointing out that they had 2 of all the other boring colours on the forecourt. She then tried to convince me that I wanted a horrrrrrid dull grey which she called BLUE.

there was an explosion at the steel factory, so there's a limitation on gen 4 quantities in general.

Red is a $395 upcharge. That squelched my enthusiasm for red and I got mine in blue, which I like much more than I did at first.

I figure I keep my car for at least 10 years, maybe 15-20 so $395 divided by 10 years is $39/year and worth it to me ;) Plus I had a blue car for 11 years prior and wanted something different.

Great rationalization! I can use it to justify the money I've spent on pimping my Prius! If I simply divide it by 10 it doesn't hurt as much.

Before this I had a bright red Insight-I and a metallic brown Prius, so blue is a change for me.

Back in 2006...there were a couple of reasons I didn't buy a Prius. First was the $3,000-$4,000 mark up over MSRP, second was you had to wait 3+ months, third was you got whatever color showed up.

Difficulty I had was not red per se, but red in four with ATP + PCP. Had to settle for the Moonstone interior which I (and especially my wife!) didn't really want but in the end accepted. Moonstone and white console 'match' for what that's worth. It does grow on you but how to keep that very light (almost white) grey clean?

You could have had them do a Dealer trade...or just ordered exactly what "you wanted". I never settle for what "they want" to sell me.

They were quite willing to do the trade--and found several without Moonstone about 100 miles away from NYC but in the end couldn't be bothered. Price was very good (no upcharge for the Red) so bird in the hand.

Think twice before buying a red car. Humans are peripherally blind to color red (you can easily verify this by holding a red object with your arm extended); therefore, cars on your side or when you are on their side won't see you. I know this because I had a red car (Barcelona Red Metallic) and it acted like magnets were mounted on its sides that were attracting other cars onto it from the sides. Light blue or light green (along with yellow) are most visible colors.

It is noted that the color red, used for fire fighting equipment, is one of the least visible of vehicle colors. Optometrists note that, for its high visibility, lime yellow should be used by fire and rescue teams, as well as favored by trucks and car buyers. Lime yellow falls in the middle of the color spectrum between the wavelengths 510 and 570. At night, white is the most visible, but lime yellow stands out better against cloudy skies and snowy backdrops than does white. The color red is perceived as black at night. Also, people have particularly poor peripheral detection of red shades. These findings are supported by research. It is also pointed out that color is an underrated component of 'safety packages' that should also include sirens and flashing lights for fire and emergency vehicles. It is noted that the use of strobe lights should be monitored more carefully.

I looked into car color safety a little bit before going to the dealership and certainly yellow is the safest color and white is among the safest color except if there is snow, grey and black have a slightly higher incident of car crashes while all other standard car colors seem to be equal. I had a brighter blue car previously and there were many times where people would try to come into my lane. I try my best never to drive in someone's blind spot, I am either behind them, so they could move over or slightly in front of them, so that they'd really have to be blind not to see me.

Thermo-tec Lime Green. Is it available in Australia? It's not available in North America.

No, no mention about it - except in the press a few months ago. Definitely not in the brochure.

I will certainly ask my dealer about it - maybe if they get enough enquiries, they'll add it to the options.

If it does reduce heat, it would certainly be suitable here, where many makes bring their cars for heat testing. But, I'm not sure, from an aesthetic viewpoint, how many people would select it. You wouldn't lose it in a carpark.

Car Gurus has 533 red 2016 Prius listed nationwide around 208 are 2s the second most is 3s (108). But these numbers maybe high since Dealers will list the same vehicle multiple times. What would be harder to find is a red Prius with black interior.
