FIberglass Lip spoiler

    After working with those add on lips I decided to see what happens if I fiberglass on as a spoiler.


    Day one tape off areas and align the spoiler lip.

    Apply resin and fiberglass.

    Sand it down and add more fiber glass.

    Add some bondo body filler and sand. Lots of sanding.

    Day 4

    Put the spoiler back on the car so I can go to work. Going to get some spot glazing putty after work. Then should just be more sanding then primer coat of paint.

    Interesting! This is one of those all-weather strips that people use on the front lip.. you're just putting it on the spoiler?

    Haha. I drove to work once with no spoiler as i was having it painted black during the week.

    I have been wanting to give this a try. I was wanting to give mine a Do-Luck style. Looks sick so far cant wait for the finished product! Justdidit do you have a link to the spoiler?

    This project was such a pain. Lots and lots of sanding. Paint dried funny creating cracks so I need to resand it again when it warms up then paint. Looks kinda wavy but not bad for a first timer and I think it looks cool.

    Not bad at all for a first timer. Good job! Even though I'm not sure it serves much function, I sure like the form!(y)

    Goddam I just fell in love! Always wanted to see a Rocket Bunny inspired spoiler on the Prius tho! I think it would look pretty clean

    The problems begin... Noticed along the added lip it started cracking and the rubber underneath was coming through. The spray paint job I did started cracking. Removed it and added like 4 layers of fiberglass onto the added lip after sanding. Took my time redoing. Had it painted again,put it in the sun and the sides exploded, a layer of fiberglass just flaked off. Sanded down again. Fixed that area and primed the spoiler. Noticed another weak spot on the bottom where the rubber was coming through now so had to redo fiberglass again and ran out of resin in the process so had to buy more. Learned to add more layers than you think in fiberglass. Looks good now. Just got a HVLP spray gun and am going to repaint it again soon to be shinier.

    wow... i do not know enough about fiberglass to even advise. Surely someone will pipe up or you can find info online... Spoiler still looks good tho. (y)
