Yesterday my Gen II T-Spirit Prius (I'm UK based) hit 100,000 trouble free miles of motoring. In that time I've done the routine changes/tyres/fluids etc; but besides a water pump at roughly 85,000 and some new pads and rotors at 70,000 miles (way before they were really needed) the car is as new. It also performs as if it were new. In fact, I actually get slightly better economy now than I did out of the car when it was new.

However, I'm conscious that times arrow moves forever forward and the safety kit on the new Prius dwarfs my beloved 2008 Gen II. So today, after hitting 100k yesterday, I went to the local Toyota dealer and bought a new Prius. I went Excel spec in black with the grey leather trim. Surprised that the delivery wouldn't be until July. This is the UK - a big Prius market! Is demand really that big or are Toyota deliberately limiting supply to keep prices buoyant?

There was a production delay due to a steel plant shutdown. But I agree, July is a ways off.

Is there any way to find out how many orders are on queue? Perhaps an order number?

I was told also here in Germany delivery mid-July 10 days ago.
Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to finally order mine, assuming and hoping the sales guy is back from sickness.
At the time he checked the order leadtime he told me only 2 other Prius in 2 different colors were available in the mid-trim ("Confort") with IPA/ICS.

Thanks for the replies. Even though I knew what I wanted when I purchased out of curiosity I asked the dealer to look at the order times of different colours and trims. When he punched the requirements into his computer lower spec 'Business Plus' versions were available earlier, but were still unavailable till May/June. There were some silver and white Prius' available sooner, but again only in lower specs and the darker colours weren't available at all until July/August. I don't actually mind waiting too much, but I wonder if this is a sign that very few top spec cars are expected to sell in Europe so they virtually have to make to order, explaining the long wait times.

I wonder what the wait time is on the fuel cell car in Europe?

I don't think the EU is reckoned to be an important market. And hence little is allotted to it. They hardly had cars to show. In Italy in Florence, they had the first car to show 20 days after launch. Just one car. Same for the 2-3 dealers here in Munich.

There is also the steel plant 1 week shutdown. And maybe more request than expected (the numbers of sales are not out yet or at least I haven't seen any).

But when I got my gen3 back in 2009 I ordered it in August with expected delivery in November. It arrived in mid-Sept....

In Brisbane City area (Australia) I've now seen 3 Prius Gen 4 at dealerships - all white. I read on another thread that most dealers are being allowed one car each as a demonstration, and are taking orders. I'd really like to see one in red or blue - the white seems a bit stark and emphasises the edgy styling before I ordered.

Interestingly, there are about a dozen Gen 3s in dealerships too - all white too.

I haven't seen the blue, but the red is very sharp and should be seen in person to really be appreciated. Wait.

I wanted red but got blue because of availability issues, and because in the US at least there is a $395 surcharge for red (why??). Now that I have it, the blue has grown on me and I'm pleased with it. And with having saved $395.

That's odd - Mazda 3 also quotes a premium of $250 on RED too. All the other metallic colours are no extra. But 80% of the photos in the Mazda brochure are red.

Congrats! Looks as if July is pretty standard for delivery in the UK then. I suspect a lot of UK Prius' will end up as taxis, so perhaps they're not importing many that aren't white/silver at this stage. Doubt anyone will buy the bottom spec car in the UK, figure that is just so they can advertise the bottom figure price. The salesman tried to take £500 off the value of my trade in because "the car will be worth less in July." Unsurprisingly I didn't let that wash - explained that since I wasn't buying a car in July, but was buying it now that wasn't really my problem.

My local garage had a pearl white Business edition inside but it had apparently already been sold that morning. The demonstrator was also a business edition in black. That is why I went black really as I was tempted by the blue but hadn't actually seen one in the flesh. The car looks way better in person than in photos. The grey will look good, but my current Prius is already in Decuma grey, so figured it was time for a change.

Yup, mine's due in July as well. Excel in Hypersonic Red.

Was talking to the dealer again yesterday, seems all colours are now out to August, & factory build only.

Thought the slow boat was from China & not Japan. :)
