I have got about 25k on my Yokohama Avid Ascend tires. Checking the tread today and found a lot of fine cracks in the groves of the tires. Looked at the tires on our Soul and or Pilot and didn't see any cracking at all. Has anybody noticed this and should I be worried about it. Not really fond of these tires anyway

Those fine cracks develop as the tire ages. It shouldn't be an issue unless the tire becomes over 8 years old.......

I would replace them, it a sign indicating the tire compound is breaking down! Tires is the only thing that keep you contacted to the road! Rather be safe than regreting I should had!

a picture is needed to answer this question. but, if this is what i think it is, it should be harmless. dangerous cracks are the deep long ones in the sidewall. what is the age of the tires and is the car garaged or kept in sun?

The car is kept outside and the tires are 4 years old according to date on side wall ( 4812). We have had the car 2 years and the tires looked new when we got it. They may have more than 25k on them

I HATED the OEM Yoko Avid's. I had more flats in 3 years on those tires than any other car combined in my nearly 30 years driving. Traction was horrible as they wore down as well.

Now to your original question, if it is just minor checking / cracks I wouldn't worry about it unless you need an excuse to justify some new tires.

Our Michelin Pilot OEM's, manufactured the fifth week of 2009, are showing some fine cracking, in particular in the grooves between treads. Still lots of tread depth left though, so I just keep an eye on it.
