We listened to them for years from Volt supporters...

Any confirmation on the Prime having a spare tire? Doesn't seem likely considering the raised ("by the width of a cell phone") floor of the Prime compared to the '16 Prius. If so, it would be the first car I am aware of sold in the USA with a plug *and* a spare...

Just throwing this out there. Maybe four seats because the battery's heavier and five passengers would overload the car's max weight, if they're using the same suspension as the regular Prius.

Overall, I think the reveal was good. The plug-in hybrid technology is impressive and an incremental improvement, and we'd accept it from any other car company. My real problem with the car is it's horrendous styling. The Volt and Ioniq are beautiful in comparison and should be real competitors if styling is on your shopping list. I wish I could get the front end from the regular Gen 4, the tail end from the Prime (or some other car), minus the over-the-top creases, bumper scoops, dimples and surface tension. Not that I'm in the market, mind you. My new-to-me 2012 PiP is working out great for me and looks attractive. Style's a personal thing though, and some of you probably like it.

The problem with support for Volt up until just a few days ago was the enabling. Those in favor would allow the 6-mile misleading to continue. That greenwashing effort to convince people the battery-pack only delivered 6 miles of total capacity for EV prevented any type of cooperative effort. Why listen to those who blatantly allow that undermining?

Their reasoning for only 4 seats fell on deaf ears as a result.

To make matters worse, there was an outright dismissal of leg & head room being important. Thankfully, that did change when gen-2 of Volt was revealed. Unfortunately, the 6-mile misleading continued.

So, now, we are at a point of decision. Will they constructively address design or continue on with the same rhetoric?

It sure would be nice to look forward. Features like seat-warmers for in back are possible with the bucket design. You'll never get that from old-school benches.

Are their seat warmers in the back? Volt 2 made theirs a 5 seater sorta... They pack a heavier battery and smaller car, maybe it's lighter than the pp. But comfort can always come down like they do in current prii..where the middle seat can turn into that middle cushion. I don't know why Chevy would be trying to put a 5th seat and Toyota not. Baffles my mind?

Any chance that this is the actual version that comes out or do they have time to change it..

I don't share that view, unless you are willing to make that decision for everyone. Are you talking about this Volt?

ha, I've seen the 2016 Volt in person and it certainly isn't what I'd call a beautiful car. and from the pictures of the Ioniq, it looks a lot like the Prius Prime.

Also, the Volt blends in too easily with the crowd of: Civic Coupes, Dodge Darts, etc....I am not able to appreciate the superior styling, and Hyundai Ioniq profile is more like Gen 3.

Because I like the look of recent Civics and the Gen 3 Prius, the Volt and Ioniq look better to me than say, a Mirai-inspired car. But others disagree and that's fine. I prefer blending in and find the new styling too "out-there", and not in a good way.

Another reason for the four seats: limited head room in the middle of the backseat because of the dip in the hatch window. (If it hasn't already been mentioned.)

Yes, that Volt. But as I said in my post "Style's a personal thing though, and some of you probably like it." I'm sure the Prime and regular Prius will be successful for Toyota. Styling is a subjective thing. Some like myself will decide the styling has gone too far beyond what we would enjoy owning, and veer towards something similar without all the bangle-esque surface entertainment.

I still don't know how anyone can look at the Ioniq and say "wow that looks so much different than the Prius Prime"... when it looks like a near twin :)

The Volt and Ioniq are beautiful in comparison. On the Volt and Ioniq, I don't see the Prius and Prime's 50's Cadillac-like wings, or the black-ed out plastic C-pillars, or the crazy dimples on the rear bumper that form Z-shapes, or the white plastic bidet and black darth vadar helmet inside... Too much surface entertainment for my eyes, but I love the technology.

Spare tire would mean there would only be one backseat

Many people still want to hold onto that older styling. That's fine. Preferences differ.

The catch is, Toyota doesn't want to take that direction with Prius. They want it to pioneer ahead, making it look different from the crowd. Some will like that. Some won't.

That's why we also get hybrids like Camry & RAV4.
