Yes, if by "fits with" you mean "sounds like it will blow past" LOL

Your focus on net price post-tax credit has reminded me that the Volt has something like a $3k tax credit advantage over the Prime. Especially given the realities of U.S. tax incentives, Toyota seems to have targeted the "sour spot" of configuration, with enough battery and gilding to significantly increase the price of the car, but not enough to function as a "near BEV" or get maximum tax benefits. Most people shopping the Volt are just going to shake their heads after looking at the Prime and write a check to Chevy. Hard-core Toyota fans may go the other way, but that would at least in part be because they've internalized Toyota's BEV skepticism. (A good metric for this is whether the word "Mirai" makes them laugh out loud or nod knowingly.)

i don't know about that. people shopping plug ins do so for various reasons. outside of cali, people with shorter commutes and the desire for top notch mpg's will probably go for the prius. people with longer commutes or who can't plug in at work, and are fine with 40 mpg or whatever it is might go for the volt. again, pricing will need to be competitive.

I look at versatility. Work is 80 miles away. If a Volt could do 50 mpg I would then look at the size and price. It all plays together. The Gen 3 Prius car was the ultimate in versatility. I haven't seen the Gen 4 yet but I believe Toyota lost some versatility here overall while improving mpg and "style".
    Can I have 5-8 seats?
Can I have high mpg (I love owning a top notch hybrid vehicle though with the highest MPG)?
Can it be a lift/hatch back?
Can I fold down the seats and put big objects/items in there?
    Can I add a hitch?
How does it do in 400+ mile trips?
Does it have any EV range?

of course. there are many parts to the car buying equation. we tend to over simplify it by making it pip vs volt. which it probably isn't, a majority of the time.

All back to back posts merged. I don't like how the charging port door doesn't have the cover built in. I also don't care for the blank for the unavailable fast charging port. I didn't take the time to check if it had an LED illuminating the charging port. image.jpeg

I still can't believe we didn't get the turn signal repeater!

I have mixed feeling about this one. On one hand, I find the center rear console adds a premium feel to the back seat. They did a much better job that Chevy did with the first gen Volt. However, I feel they did a better job because there is nothing under the seat they had to work around.

Perhaps it's that weird blue color they chose. Why didn't they pull out the stops and show it in metallic candy apple red or something?

I prefer the First gen PiP wheels than the ever changing wheel covers. I have a feeling Toyota may have purchased a 10 year supply of Prius wheels. All they do is add different wheel covers.

I would say it's as deep as the average center console. I bet the European owners of the Prius V would be jealous of the rear center console found on the Prius Prime. image.jpeg

with all due respect, Volt is pretty poorly selling car itself, so much that GM decided not to offer it worldwide... so whatever GM is doing isnt working for Volt and Toyota has done something different. They expect 20k sales per year and are hardly ever wrong. Despite those being good sales for phev, they are overall likely to be only 5-8% of Prii worldwide sales.

I expect Prime to be sold as luxury Prius and not just as Phev, with emphasis on cool tech and luxury factor compared to regular Prius... So expect Pricing similar to Volt but with tech and luxury replacing battery cost. Which kind of makes sense since gas is cheap.

BTW- The charge port door will now lock when you lock the car. This has never been a concern for me but in some markets in could be a nice addition.

God forbid someone go and plugin the charge cord and top off your car while you're away.

    Weight gain over PiP.

The Prime's heater works to -10°C/14°F before ERDTT..

What do you mean? It has that blank twist cover. There is a light. If you had just lowered the camera a bit, the light is in between the charging port and the blank charging port cover holder.

Darn, I forgot to measure that! It's a reasonable size for the rear seats. I've seen rear consoles that are only enough for a small pad of paper. This one can store things.

Because the blue is a new and unique colour to Prime.

I'm ok with the petal-design wheel cover. It doesn't make the wheels look small like the other cover designs. I thought it was 16" at first.
