I got the transmission p lock mechanism error. following the advice of the multiple threads, I removed and replaced the old battery after testing it. I drove about 40 miles and the triangle came back with the vsc and yellow exclamation highlighted too. The cruise control quit working but I was able to get it to the dealership and get a reading. There were two codes: p3102-581 and c2301 -40 and 50. the dealer wants to keep it all day to "dig into it". Please help. This is on a 2006 prius.

Yes the codes came from the dealer. This morning i checked the new battery and it was a 12.1. Turned on wipers, dome lights, and headlights and it dropped to 11.5

How old is that battery? If it's over four years, get a new one.

It's been fully charged. Drove the highway for 20 miles and the triangle came back on. I'm guessing it's either the transmission ecu or park motor. I guess I'll find out monday.

12.1 is not fully charged, or else the battery is bad.

It is clear that is not the auxillary battery at this point. Both have been fully charged on agm chargers and both tested above 12.7 when installed. Drove the interstate 23 miles before the triangle, yellow vsc, and yellow exclamation point illuminated and cancelled the cruise and threw the p lock mechanism error. At this point, I am done troubleshooting and will leave it to the dealer to dig into.

As much as you would like to believe that, 12.1 V (standing) and then a drop to 11.5 V under load (a light load at that) means your battery is fully discharged. So If this is a new battery and it was just fully charged (which 12.7 V is not), then the battery is faulty and needs to be returned for exchange or refund. It is clearly not holding a charge.

That is a reasonable guess if in fact the 12V battery is fully charged.

If you want to DIY, you can obtain the factory repair manual info from techinfo.toyota.com so that you can verify the wiring harness between the transmission control ECU, hybrid vehicle ECU and power source ECU. The manual also shows the expected waveforms between the HV ECU and transmission control ECU.

If no problems are found then you would replace the shift control actuator and if necessary, the transmission control ECU. It does not surprise me that your dealer wants to spend a day of tech time evaluating your car's problem since this is not a common issue.

So if you don't want to spend $$$ at your dealer, then plan to spend a good day working on the problem yourself.

as stated before....batteries were fully charge, reinstalled, and the error came back. it isnt the battery. i am thinking it is the shift control actuator.

As stated before, the battery (at 12.7) was not fully charged. It should be in the region of 12.9-13.2 V once the surface charge has dissipated. But, I agree the battery is not the cause, I was just pointing out your battery is in a poor condition for a new battery. You should take advantage of the warranty and get it replaced while you can.
