Recent purchase of an 05 Prius, no user manual. It is approaching 100k Running fine, but a glitch that could be owner ignorance. Over the past two weeks, the heat seems fine and then turns off, blows cold air. The prius owner I know said just leave it on auto and always on recirculate. That doesn't seem to work. What settings are best? The other question I had was given it is almost 100K old, what should I plan on having done? Spark plugs, PCV, ? The former owner replaced the regular battery shortly before we purchased it. Thanks for any advice

Not sure about your problem, but regarding settings, I would only use recirculate when there's bad fumes or dust outside.

Ditto about recirc--use that mode sparingly. If the heat turns off, can you get it back on again by increasing the setting? Are you using defrost mode when this happens?

It'll be easy enough to find a maintenance schedule online. You should be changing coolant soon, both engine and transaxle.

When it starts blowing cold air, I tried just increasing the temp. It doesn't help. Should I just leave it on Auto? Thanks for info on things to plan on, I questioned the PVC valve as the auto parts store said I would need one soon. ?? He also said the gas line filter was in the tank so that never has to be replaced. Guess that's a good thing.

That usually means there is air in the heater core. Do you hear any air bubbling around when the heater is on?

Have you checked the engine coolant level in the radiator? It is not adequate just to look at the overflow reservoir.
