For me to buy a Model 3, it would have to be under $10k, as it's only useful as a commuter car around town. I'd still have to have a gas car to go everywhere else. Heck, I went on a 300 mile trip last weekend with no time to stop at a charge station. Used about half a tank.

The Prime is DOA for me anyway because they screwed up the cargo area. I'll be waiting to see what's going on with the 2017 liftback, and probably buying one.

Not Ready for Prime Time players?
We need Gov Brown to sign green HOV sticker extension by June_2016 or PHEV sales are toast.

Although, many states heeding the warning to add tax credits to help CA sell these vehicles. NY expected to announce this today I believe.

We're super low miles, more or less all around town, supposedly good candidates for an electric vehicle, but really not interested. When you're spending around $30 a month with a versatile hybrid, the Prime, Bolt, Volt, Tesla 3, all seem meh.

We'll never know right? There is no end in sight for the CA white HOV stickers for BEV.

To put it another way, the direct competitor for a Model 3 for me is a used Leaf. They sell for around $10k, and I haven't bought one. Both cars serve the same purpose.

Model 3 got it right with 5 seats. Seems like Toyota is late to the game with serious EV capability. I just signed up for 2 Model 3 reservations. I'm sure these will be consumed by someone in my family, might not be me personally. The prime would have been awesome if offered in 2012, but not today.

Having the Tesla Model 3 in the market, I already whipped from my mind the probability of the New Prime.
It is a revamped 2012 PiP, with updated old options, an skimpy new electrical range, a deletion of a 5 passenger seating, lesser rear cargo space and surely an outrageous expensive price with all the loaded goodies as I saw it in the 2016 NY IAS.
Nevertheless to said that will have less technological advances that the prospect Model 3 competitor
Good Bye!!!! Prime, was very nice to recently meet you but NO, THANK YOU Toyota.

I think Tesla is still ahead of its time (but less so compared to Mirai). PHV is the bridge toward Plugins if they are viable. Personally I'd love to see what the industry can come with to max out 50 miles EV and mpg.

I think I would have gotten a volt if it was 48 mpg.

i think bevs have a certain limited use, which attracts one part of the car buying market, and phevs have an unlimited use which attracts another.

Why don't you just buy a used pickup for $1000 and then spend the $9000 for years of gas.

Yup. The point is, if those who reserved didn't consider a hybrid or PHEV before, then we're converting more people and that's a good thing. It'll spread by word of mouth.
