I have a 2004 prius that sat for 2 years, I just replace a cell, worked on the HV battery and made sure it was balanced. I got the battery back in and I can't get it to go into Ready mode, I can get it to ignition on and charge the battery and into acc.
I've checked several components to see if they were causing the issue.
    - 12v battery is good
    - brake light switch seems to be good as the lights come on when the brake pedal is pressed (but ready mode does not)
    - I've checked a number of fuses suggested by other thread
    - used and obd2 adapter with torque and it is not coming up with any codes
    -Edit-
    - 12v battery was replaced last spring and has been maintained

So I'm not sure where to from here, so if anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

Make sure the orange plug in the HV battery is locked into place....you have to press DOWN on it to lock.

I've checked the safety plug on the battery and it is pushed in all the way in and down

Check the voltage on your 12v battery. If it sat for 2 years, it can't be good

I wasn't aware you can get it into ignition mode without it going Ready.

Check the voltage of the 12v battery while it's not operating. I would think you need to charge that up. There is no way it can start a car after sitting 2 years.

Disconnect the 12v negative for a few seconds and reconnect it. That will reset the car and you can try again.

If it still doesn't start, something didn't go right with your HV battery module replacement.

Also the 12v battery doesn't start the car the HV battery does and it starts but only into ign on

Assuming there's nothing else wrong with the car, other than the HV battery module that you replaced. Only non start condition would be.

    1. Bad 12v battery - which you've already checked
    2. The orange plug not locked into place
    3. There are more HV modules that have failed in the battery pack.
    4. Blown fuses - which you shouldn't have blown any by doing a module swap

Not sure what this means......if it doesn't go into Ready mode, it's not working.

I would focus my time into checking the modules voltages individually and see what you get.

It means I can get it into ign on and the engine turns on and charges the HV battery, if the HV battery was the issue it wouldn't have turned on as it provides power to start the engine.

Then it sounds like your "Ready" light is not working. If it doesn't go into Ready mode, your engine won't turn on.

From what I've read there are 3 modes it will go into
    - Ready: runs and will go into gear and the (HV power flows)
    - Ign on: engine will start and charge Hv battery (HV power flows)
    - ACC: just accessories running of 12v (HV power shut off)

Checked the plug several times already, it won't go into drive. When I can get it on it only will go into neutral.

What is the history on the car? Did you just buy it recently?

It's my grandparents and I was planning on buying it if I could get it working properly. It had a steering issue which is why it sat for 2 years and I ended up having to work on the battery.

There's probably other issues with the car that kept it grounded for 2 years. The battery issue developed after sitting 2 years. The root cause of the problem is not fixed.

There was a recall on the steering shaft, hopefully that's done on the car.

It sat for 2 years because the steering was shaking and my grandfather couldn't fix it, other wise it was running fine.
