I just picked up a Pioneer TS-SWX2502 and thought I share some info on it. I was surprised to find no post about this sub on PC. My requirement was to add some bass and minimizing lost of storage space. Also, this needs to blend in with my current system which isn't amplified. I haul my bike in the car very often so I didn't want anything in the trunk area. Then I ran across numerous car audio install threads where the area sub trunk floor was used. I can't find the thread where they actually placed the sub in there but thanks for sharing! I was really surprised that a woofer placed in that spot doesn't rattle like crazy. I still had my doubts but more on that later. Anyhow, I thought this was a perfect spot as I wouldn't be loosing any trunk space and will be out of the way.

So I measured this trunk tray area out and starting looked for options. This trunk tray area is fairly large width and height wise but isn't too deep. In the area torward the front of the car, it measures just a hair over 6". Then as you move back it gets shallower to about 5 3/4. That is really the main limiting factor. So with that, I know the space I had. I almost settled for a compact powered sub which seems to be fairly popular these day but after reading the reviews, I probably would have been disappointed. I ran across shallow subwoofers and new that would be a better option. Even better was that I found that Pioneer makes a complete product for one of their's. My main concern was 6" depth.

I ordered it from Amazon and it arrived in 4 days and it fits as I expected. If you place it with the longer section across the car, it just fits and raises the base of the trunk slightly. You're still able to turn the lock latches without force. I think if I wanted to resolve this, I can just trim down the edges of the underside of the tray so it can sit lower in the trunk. That's an assumption since the took caddy/tray is what's below the trunk tray supporting it. So fit wise, it's almost perfect.

Lastly the sound... which I will be brief due to time.. with the speaker upgrade that isn't amplified, and a 150watt amp for this sub, this is more than enough to overwhelm the front speakers(non amplified). I prefer my music fairly balance so.. keep that in mind. It's still has to break in but I'm very happy with what it is. It's blends in well with my system. It's far from not neighbor waking bass.

It's not really "finished". Cables aren't dressed up so looks still messy. I didn't even have to drill any holes to route wires as there is a slot on right side.

This sub can't hit very hard on those lower rumbling frequencies.

Spent a few more hours listening to it driving around town. It's still breaking in but very enjoyable.. this sub works well for pop and rock.. the bass is tight and punchy. It has a hard time developing the earth shaking bass but that was expected. It's a very small sealed enclosure 10". I am running 150 watts RMS to it and that's enough make anything I play bass heavy. That's not how I like to listen to music so it's more than enough.

Anyone have suggestion for some good quality recordings?

The sound quality between the various sources is very obvious now. The obvious one is radio(FM and AM). SAT and Mp3 sounds about the same and the best being off of a CD's.

Classic & Modern Rock, HipHop, Alternative. I've been thinking of fiberglassing in the spare tire area but might have something else taking up that real estate

    We listen to similar music..

What space are you willing to sacrifice? Did you want to build one? if it's no and no, this product is a great option.

    That would be sweet!

Since I'm reading a lot that it's not that simple to upgrade the audio without replacing the head unit.

The connection is very simple these days and have a number of options. I took the speaker level output from stock unit and goes to speaker level input on my amplifier.

Just some input after listening to it for a few months now. Though the source(stock head unit) isn't that great, this enclosure definetily helps. I am certian with an aftermarket head unit it would sound even better. For what is it(size and price wise), I'm happy. You will be disappointed if you want to rumbling the neighborhood if that's what you're after.

I don't want to have an overwhelming bass system, as well as I don't want to replace the head unit. So just splicing the rear door speakers, and piggy-backing a wire from there to the sub amplifier would do the trick?

meaning one has to have a separate amplifier for the subwoofer?

Somewhat. If ur amp has "hi-level" input then yes. If ur amp has only RCA inputs (low level) u will need a hi to low adaptor

    RF-HLC - 2-Channel High-to-Low Converter | Rockford Fosgate

Also.....if u have the JBL system.....u want to tap in BEFORE the JBL amp. This is because the amp has a built in crossover so it won't provide the best signal. Either tap in behind the radio or down by the amp under the passenger seat. Don't tap at the rear door.

If u don't have the JBL feel free to tap anywhere

    Yes :D

This subwoofer isn't powered or amplified so you will an separate amplifier. There are amplified bass units to keep things simpler.

Bigger? there are powered subwoofers that are even smaller than this.
