Hi all, newbie here needing some kind advice, please!
I had the red warning, VSC and brake light up on the display. After a quick search on here I suspected a bad battery. Bought a Bosch S4, fitted it, all good.... for about 4 miles, then the warnings came back.
I wondered if the new battery was fully charged so I removed it and charged it. Re-fitted and same thing happened, good for about 4 miles then warnings came back.
The battery fan is on constantly,
The car feels sluggish - loss of power,
The MFD shows the battery bars going from one purple up to all green in a couple of minutes and moving up and down erratically, through all the coloured bars, min to max.

What do you guys think the problem is?
    Thanks very much!

    Jay.

Sounds more like the big battery, not the 12 volt one.

Classic symptoms of a failed HV battery. Sorry for your loss - about as big as it can be for a Prius.

If the HV battery is dodgy, what can I expect next? Is the car still drivable for a while or should I not take the chance?
Is it possible to confirm for sure that the HV battery is dying?

    Thanks,
    Jay.

It may last to the end of the street or for months. You have no idea.

Confirmation of a bad HV battery, much like diagnosing anything on anay car made since 1996, can be done via reading the trouble codes. Code reading options in my signature.

I will second what SKeith said above. The next step is to pull the codes, then go from there.

You mentioned several things which told me it was more than likely the hv (traction battery) aka "big battery".

    Those being the following.

FWIW, your best bet if you do have work done on the battery is to get a NEW one, rather than having yours rebuilt or reconditioned. Rebuilding or Reconditioning is like "Whack a Mole". The game goes on and on. Do some research on this before you spend your money.

Dude, I had a discussion with the Mrs along those lines, this evening. I'm inclined to agree. Pay a bit more now and have the benefits of a new battery. I'm booked in to have a full diagnostic at the local Toyota dealer, next Tuesday. I'll keep you posted

I've bitten the bullet and taken the old girl to Toyota. I have left it with them though it isn't scheduled to be worked on until Tuesday. Just got to wait and see now!
