Just past 333,333 (miles) on my 2001 this weekend. New traction battery at 286,000. No other major repairs. Still getting about 47 mpg in mixed SoCal driving.

    Good job there Dave.

I hope the car keeps going a long time yet and pays you back for the battery cost... that I'm sure it did on the front end of those 286k.

Of course! Al Gore's son proved it years ago, getting a DUI in a Prius at 100 mph.

The family got back a couple weeks ago from an epic 3-week road trip (Redlands CA---> Portland OR---> Calgary Alberta---> Glacier NP---> Mount Rushmore---> Yellowstone NP---> Redlands CA). About 5000 miles in a 2001 Prius that had 337,000 miles on it before the trip started.

We had four of us (and too much crap), and amazingly, it really wasn't uncomfortable. Nice quiet ride, good AC, 43 mpg at 75 mph. We fit 3 good size roller duffels, a carryon size bag, my golf clubs, and a bunch of miscellanous stuff in the trunk and a small cooler and a few small bags-o-crap inside with us. Normally, I get about 47 mpg for my typical SoCal commuting and around-town driving. I attribute the lower mpg on this trip to about 600 pounds of passengers (won't say how that weight is distributed), 200 pounds of cargo, mostly freeway speed driving (70-80 mph), and nearly constant AC use).

I did a 1/2 hour front brake job in the NAPA parking lot in Jackson Hole WY (wife and kids didn't even get out of the car). Other than that...no issues.

Sounds like you had a great trip. It is always nice to read about people having such high miles on an old car and have confidence in driving it the way you just did. Now you need to change that engine oil!

I drive the car every day, and on many longish trips for my work. I am a firm believer in the idea that once you know you have "a good one," and maintain it well, then the chance that a catastrophic mechanical failure will occur in the next few thousand miles is always relatively low. Of course, if I didn't have the mechanical skills to take care of minor issues along the way, I would be a lot less willing to embark on such a trip.

Hit 350k miles today on the way to work. So now I'm at 7/20 million. Next milestone is 3/8 million (375k)

Dave, this is great! I'm with you. Our family has 4 cars and the newest is my daughter's...a 2006 Ford Focus. The oldest is my 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Our two Prii, 2002 and 2005, are daily drivers, both with over 120,000 miles. I maintain them all myself and they are all good cars.

My 2002 has ONLY 141,000 miles on it. However, it seems to have developed an oil leak, which I believe is coming from the main rear seal, so that brings me back to PriusChat!

    Drive on, Dave!

"Hey guys, wait in the car. I'm gonna do a brake job real quick." LOL

480,000 miles, and just lost compression in Cylinder 4. I had a chronic rear main seal leak and my oil levels dropped too low on several occasions. Old engine/trans are out and the new engine/trans is almost ready to go in.....then the journey continues, if it starts :)

You have 480k miles on a 2007? I thought I drove a lot of miles.

Had listed this car for sale, but couldn't do it. Approaching 3/8 million!

Still using this car as a "station car" to get me from the metro station to my office, 4 miles each way. Still creeping up on 3/8 million miles. You don't put many miles on a car driving in 8 miles/day, 3 days/week. I learned that I have to disconnect the 12v battery if I am not going to drive it for more than a few days. Totally reliable otherwise, although its pretty beat (faded paint, cracked windshield, bad shocks, etc.). Being the ugliest car in the lot is my theft deterrent system, although the car is very valuable to me (4 miles is a long walk).

Sorry I ended up quoting your whole post. I'm still getting used to this. I'm always interested in any posts having to do with high milage prii. I bought a 08 with 189,000 mi, and already put on 8,000 mi in about a month and a half. So I was happy to read this post. Also Dave if you are interested I have a brand new set of rear suspension parts that I'm looking to find a good home for. If your interested please let me know. And thank you for the tales of high milage

Finally passed 3/8 million miles earlier this week. Runs good, drives ok, looks terrible. Gets the job done though.
