    Hi all,

My daughter got hit on the passenger side of the front of her 2015 Prius Three, by a driver who somehow didn't see a bright red Prius in the way while she tried to turn left across my daughter's path. (Bad word; very bad word.)

No one was hurt, other than seat belt burns and such, but some of the paramedics suggested that the car would be totaled. Really? Just bought it in January, though it's a 2015 and therefore not the newest. I'm pretty sure all the airbags managed to deploy, because it looked like a big balloon festival in the car. The passenger door wouldn't open very far, and you can see the other damage.

Think it'll be totaled? I can't say I want it back if there is a doubt about the reliability of a repaired car, but...

welcome! glad everyone is okay. some people think if the airbags go off, it's a total. but it's really a matter of repair cost vs vehicle value. thats a pretty good shot, so, they may be correct. all the best!(y)

Driver's today are unbelievable! Trying to turn left in front of your daughter. I hope they "throw the book" at the offender. Maybe was "texting" while driving or talking on the cell phone and was distracted!

Driving to work every day I see maybe a couple of potential accidents a day. Drivers today are zipping in and out and have no regard for speed limits. If I were a State Trooper I would be making a fortune with the amount of tickets I could write.

I don't think they'll total it, looks to be under$20k damage.

You would need a sledge hammer to help it along

I vote totalled. Suspension damage, rim damage, possibly transaxle trashed, etc.
    Plus the airbags.

The wheel doesn't even look tweaked, no way transaxle damage. Superficial cosmetic damage.

    Probably a 15 mph crash

Multiple airbags deployed in a 15 mph crash? Oookay.

It wasn't a 15mph crash. My daughter was traveling straight on a road with a 35mph speed limit, and as a rather slow driver (which she can't have got from me), was probably at or under the limit. The other driver was supposed to have stopped at a stop sign, but as its a kind of busy road, she probably slowed through it and then gunned slightly to get across my daughters lane and over to the one she wanted. The other driver had to go up a bit of slope, so she probably was leaning on the gas a bit.

From what I can tell, the tire and frame took some shock, but I didn't look to see if the wheel was damaged. The driver's side tire was also flattened. They picked up the car with a big spatula.

Here's what the OTHER car looked like.

The Subaru looks far worse then the Prius, I would say the Subaru is totaled, not sure about the Prius.....

Yeah, the Subaru is definitely headed to the big Subaru lot in the sky. You can kind of see that the Subaru was coming uphill and turning, as it looks like the Subaru went underneath the Prius (a physical impossibility u less there's a hill).

I actually don't think the Subaru is totalled either. The front bumper seems pushed in and not much else. Both fenders look good

The Subaru had a pretty gnarly set of damages, but it could have been mostly crumple-zone stuff. Lots of fluids everywhere, as things like the washer-fluid shattered. But that's kinda cheap. The real nightmare, cost-wise, seems to be the airbags. I think the Subaru had fewer airbags blow.

I would vote for totaled. Frame has to be bent, both front wheel assemblies need to be replaced. ICE will eventually leak here and there due to the shock of the impact. Computer has had to have gone through a hairline crack somewhere that will eventually start throwing up codes like a Christmas tree.

It's for times like these that I'm glad I have State Farm insurance. They'd total that car and make it easy to replace with new.

Looks like bent frame and engine damage. If they don't total it, I would insist or take the loss and get another car. I draw the line at bent frame.

I have State Farm as well. Just waiting for the various pieces of paper to land on one desk and have someone make a decision. For extra fun, I received the police report, and someone transcribed my daughter's driver's license number incorrectly...so now the driver of my car is listed as some women from nowhere, Georgia, who has of course never heard of this accident. Ugh! It's amazing what one wrong digit can do.

My vote is for "totalled" because of frame damage & airbag deployment. Start shopping for a new one.

Assuming I ever hear from the insurance company, I will definitely post results!
