Hi...can someone tell me the reason for a warning light of a key inside a car...the Prius don't start...the light blinks intermittently whenever the key is in the area or inside the key slot. I check the 12 battery and it gives me nearly 13 volts. Someone told me the problem is the cluster...I try to scan the Prius but it reads "NO CONNECTION". Can someone help me???? Thanks.

I'm 99 percent certain that the key fob -- your little black box key -- needs a new button battery.

Does the red light on the actual key fob light up when you press the open button. Lots of threads on here on how to install a new button battery.

The actual flashing key icon is part of the security system warning.

Put a new battery in the fob -- a few dollars -- and report back.

BTW, when our FOB battery went out a few years ago, my wife insisted just replacing the battery wasn't good enough, she wanted new FOBs -- two of them -- hmm -- spend several hundred US dollars on new FOBs, or use some Meguiar's Mirror Glaze cleaners on the old ones, put in $7 worth of new button batteries and tell her I replaced them...

You figure out what I did.

Try to reset the car by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery for a few seconds.

Even with a dead fob battery, the car should start if you put it in the key slot

Hmm, I never ever think about the key slot. In fact, I don't even think I have ever looked at it.

You are right. Being cheap and lazy, think I would disconnect negative for a few minutes and if that did not do it, still try and replace the FOB battery

If the car can go into accessory mode, then it's not a key fob problem with the car not starting

Thank you very much for the information, but I already checked that...I replace the batteries for each key fob set with fresh ones and verify with the voltmeter they are in good shape.

is the 13v at the 12v battery after the car has been off for a few hours?
