Silly me -- I thought a new Hybrid battery would be Plug 'N' Play

But, that is apparently not the case. I think I have the basics of taking out the old and putting in the new down pretty well -- in theory anyway, but any videos or instructions on what needs to be done to the new Toyota replacement before it goes in the car?

BTW, I am off work today because of a severe reaction to some sort of insect/zombie bite last night, so although I did do a web search for this stuff, there is a chance I did miss it, so I apologize if it is easy to find -- because I did not find it. And, no I do not need a new battery yet, but for some reason I have fixated on learning how to do this irregardless. Hey, maybe I can advertise on Craig's List and charge people to learn on their Prius'.

Anyway, if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate, it would give me something to do this afternoon other than moan about hives, swollen neck, sore jaw and upset tummy -- if we had black widows in Oregon, I would swear one was the culprit. Hey, maybe it was a Zika mosquito. Oh, wait, we don't have those either....

Besides the swapping of the internals on the HV Battery, Toyota will probably not sell you a battery if you are not a certified mechanic that works on hybrid/high voltage batteries. And if they would sell you the battery, you still have to lift 100lbs in and out of your car without breaking your back.

Uh, excuse me. I regularly pack 70 pounds on my back on wilderness trips above the timberline. On Saturday, I carried the 75-pound -- more or less -- floor jack from the barn to the car, about 40 yards. Even if I could not lift the battery myself, I do know people who would be happy to help.

As for ordering, seems to me I have seen several people talk about ordering online, as well as from local dealers and none of them appeared to be "certified."

Again, excuse me, it may be the megadose of Benadryl talking and I may be taking what you wrote totally wrong, but if all you have to write are misogynist comments, please refrain from directing them to me.

I just wanted to give you (or anyone else reading) a heads up on what to expect. Good to know you have friends that can help 100lbs out of the car.......I know first hand I have back problems from lifting a measly 100lb battery out of my Prius.

One question mark for me, is how much gets transferred from the old to new battery. I guess if you have the new one in hand before shipping the old one back, it's easy to sort out.

Personally, think this is one instance I'd just go with the dealership.

I don't think it's much you have to transfer. Many won't give you an honest answer to this question because they have to express the "work" involved in transferring the items over as an added cost of labor.

When we moved to our present house, about 26 years back, there was a fair bit of heavy lifting, and also a lot of repetitive, reaching into the car trunk, grabbing boxes, and lifting while stretched out. It was the latter that messed me up; still have a weak spot that acts up once in a while.

Mechanics must get messed up, leaning over the engine bay. Or develop strategies.

I don't know how mechanics do it, my back gives out after leaning forward for 30 minutes
