Just got a new 2011 Prius, missing some parts

    I picked up a 2011 Prius for a great deal, it did come with some missing pieces, and a long crack on the windshield, but that is it.

    I wanted to ask about the missing pieces, as I am having a super long time finding the part on eBay or any online store. I have attached images of the parts, and was hoping if someone can help me identify the parts.

    As mentioned, the Prius does have a long crack on the windshield, I was hoping if someone can share a cheap DIY solution to fix it? I am not looking forward to putting money on a windshield at the moment, so something that can fix it for now would be great.

    Onto the images:
    1. Front Bumper Caps? Not sure what these are called:
      1. This is the part that is missing, I put some tape over it to cover the gap. IMG_20160515_135400.jpg
      2. This is what the cap should look like, in this case, it exists for this part of the bumper. IMG_20160515_135413.jpg
    2. Windshield cowl trim/seam/clip? Not sure what this is called:
      1. This part is missing on the passanger side, this part looks to be very important as it blocks debrees and water from entering inside. Attached two angles for the missing part IMG_20160515_135637.jpg Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 2.16.36 PM.png
    3. Cracked Windshield
      1. The windshield had a small crack, but it grew with the heat the past few weeks. I saw some DIY repair with resin (I have fixed small cracks and stuff with those RainX kits in the past), and was hoping if just pouring resin over the crack might be good enough. Would love some insight on this, as I don't want to drop $500+ on a windshield. IMG_20160515_135715.jpg

    Thanks for the link references! I am stunned, that little cap for the side of the cowl panel is $75.00+ That is absolutely rediclious! It just seems like a simple plastic piece, lol. I am going to look around for folks parting their car out, lol.

    yeah, cheapest place is junk yards, I'm sure there's a lot of damaged prius out there, I'm just not sure if there's any in your area lol. Have fun!

    Check with a windscreen shop, who would be able to patch if it was still repairable. However, a while back, I thought I'd saved replacing a windscreen by getting one patched which had a much shorter crack than that one, but within a few months, the crack started again - it would have been cheaper to get it replaced in the first place. Check with a windscreen shop, as I thought it would be much less than $500.

    I'd suggest caution with driving too far like if the crack progresses, as the windscreen on most monocoque cars is a structural part of the roof (and hence the whole vehicle). I vaguely remember reading that it can be part of the airbag deploying mechanism too.

    A long crack isn't going to be fixable, but windshield replacement should be much less than $500. I got a long crack last month that I haven't fixed yet, because I'm waiting for after I drive the Alaska Highway. But I got some quotes. My insurance (Geico) wanted $500, my deductible, to get a new windshield from Safelite or any other place. That's a total scam in this case because I also got a quote directly from Safelite not using insurance, and the quote was $289 (in New Hampshire). Two other local New Hampshire places quoted $357 and $450.

    Based on previous threads here, the Safelite windshield should be good, and probably more durable than the OEM, which seems to crack easily.

    Also, if the windshield crack is in your direct line of vision, you may not pass your state's annual safety inspection. Don't know if Washington requires one...

    Woah, thanks for the responses on the crack! I asked if it was possible to DIY the repair because of a video I saw:


    Even if it is temporary, I figured it can buy me time to look around for cheap windshield installs, as I don't want to spend too much on it right now. As for the state inspection, their is none for hybrid vehicles, and in all honesty, I am pretty sure 50% of the cars here have some crack across the windshield and I never heard of someone getting pulled over for it out here. Of course, that doesn't mean it is safe, as I would have to fix it.

    Please get replaced as soon as possible. If you hit the right bump in the road, windshield can break and have a terrible outcome. Just looking out for you.
