Sorry if this is a repeat couldn't find the exact car for this problem on Google. One random day the back light on my 10 Prius III touch screen went out, so can't use features effectively. Screen does a QuickFlash when I turn the car on and most of the functions work on screen when I get lucky enough to touch the right spot. Radio works. CD check! Nav works, just can't really see it. Warranty is long past expiration. Any thing I can do without pouring my kids college fund into the dealers hand?

Check the brightness control, someone may have set if very low.

It probably has a very thin fluorescent bulb in the screen (google "CCFL backlight"). Sometimes you can find replacements (probably $10-$50, depending on whether it's a generic or purpose-built replacement), although it can be a rather difficult job to disassemble an LCD and put it back together. It's also sometimes possible to buy the whole screen assembly. Or you could get a replacement head unit from a junk yard. Basically, it's a tradeoff of how difficult and time-consuming the repair is versus how much you're willing to pay for the replacement part.
