Never buy a car made on Friday...

    I may be showing my age -- 58 -- but do any of you remember gems of wisdom such as never buy cars made on Monday, or Friday, or Saturday or Sunday.

    I remember my dad and uncles made a big deal about it back "in the day." Apparently, the VIN discloses, or used to disclose the day of the week the car was made. Don't know, never checked.

    Anyway, the wisdom was:

    Monday, the autoworkers were hungover, Friday, they wanted to get off work and party. Weekend workers did not know what they were doing.

    With new techniques, I would bet the theory would no longer be true. But lately, I keep getting coupons from an area Toyota dealer saying if I take my car in on SATURDAY, I will save 20 percent off any service.

    Wondering about those service guys who work Saturday....:D

    Same is true for PriusChat and you posted on a Monday.

    Anyways, in Japan its all different days so the VIN rule would only apply to Camry's. If we only know the bad days in Japan, then we know which Prii to buy.

    Nowadays they only have to turn the robots on/off. They can probably still do that hungover.

    Chrysler (and now Fiat as well) stamps a six-digit code on the driver's door placard designating Month-Day-Hour of the vehicle's final assembly, but I don't know of any other manufacturers who do the same.
