I don't use flat floors very much, but I have something to carry that's too big for the trunk.

Please remind me how to use the hatchback. (mine is a 2010 II) As I remember, I lift the metal bar underhanded, as though I were lifting a barbell (but it's *far* from that heavy!). Then I push the backs of the seats, and they will fold flat. Am I remembering this right? Sorry for not remembering how to do this. I've looked at the owner's manual, and it does not explain how to remove the metal bar.

If the bar your describing is the cargo cover, yes it lifts out of the slots on the sides of the rear. To lower the seat backs, there is a button on the seat back near the seat belt guide that you press to fold the seat backs onto the seating area.

I might add, there is a stowing receptical under the rear deck hatch for the security shade.

thank you to both of you! BTW, I'm glad to see that there are people still monitoring the Generation III boards.

The rear seat headrests also fold flat (forward) if you raise them all the way. They clear the front seats better if you fold them.

In addition to the seats fold better, you get better visibility out back with the headrests down too!

you have to push the buttons on top of the seats to fold them down.
