I'm going to get my windows tinted. The back three will get dark tint and light tint on the front side windows. I thought about getting the windshield top four inches tinted, too. But, I thought it could interfere with the technology package. Any one else think so? Any suggestions or things I should know before I get the tinting done?

I just had them done in my gen3 and didn't get the front window strip because I was worried about whatever is up there. It looked tricky and I didn't want to risk it. If somebody on here can confirm yay or nay I'd get it done. I'm sun blind and need all the help I can get.

In Ma, state law does not allow any aftermarket tinting on the front window. The other windows are restricted to 35%.

However, that is for visible light. Films can block UV and IR.

I went with the llumar Formulaone, pinnacle series, which uses ceramic for IR. The ceramic is transparent for gps, your electronic keys, and cell phone.

metallized Ir blockers, which do a good job with IR, could reduce all radio signals into the cockpit.

    YMMV

I ended up getting Suntek standard film. It's not a fancy film, like those "carbon" ones that 3M sells. But, it was more than half as much, too. It isn't metallized. I get cell signals in the car just fine. I didn't get any film on the windshield. I was only going to do that if could get a film that blocked IR but passed 90% of visible light. So I only tinted the side and back windows. It looks pretty good, I think.[IMG][IMG]

I got windows tinted today and it looks awesome. I went with 18% all the way around and I did get the top strip. They cut around the sensors and did a great job! IMG_3041.JPG

Here is a pic of the Formulaone Ceramic. 50% on the drivers and passengers Windows. 30% on the rear doors and hatch.

Formulaone Pinnacle series Ceramic, 25% all round. Front sides are 3% too dark, but its a Prius not a Naviator with chrome rims. ;)

    Floirda law is
    • Front Side windows: Must allow more than 28% of light in.
    • Back Side windows: Must allow more than 15% of light in.
    • Rear Window: Must allow more than 15% of light in.

I just ended up going to the same small local tint/stereo shop that I've been to 3 times before. All Japanese guys. They know Toyota's! :) They've been there for 25 years. Have no idea what "brand" the tint is... and it only cost $170. (It lasted 11 years on my old Camry; then I noticed a few bubbles on the back window.) It's good enough. (34% all around.)

Check for light gaps on the front quarter glass, seems like alot of tinters cut the film too short.

Nice photo composition and I notice you "curbed" your wheels.

    Llumar vs 3M ceramic product?

I've always had 3M (and been happy), but the installers around here all seem to be pushing Llumar. My thought had always been Llumar was a cheaper (less effective product). I think they make more profit for Llumar.

    Any direct experience?

Our Prius Two ECO comes with a tinted glasses from dealer installed.
It only applied to rear windows only.
the California heat wave still penetrates through windshield and front door glasses.
