My 2007 Prius probably needs a new Hybrid Battery. It has 178k on it and I got the warning lights on. I want to get the codes read but have not yet. I got a MINI-VCI cable but so far cannot get my laptop to recognize it. So I will probably try to drive it to autozone.

But the main reason for this note is that I am looking for the thread about buying a new battery from Toyota and pricing. I cannot find it. I called one dealer and they quoted me $2769.88 on the phone. I'm pretty sure that I remember in that thread of pricing closer to $2000.

I am considering a used or reconditioned battery too and I am in the Atlanta area. It seems like a bunch of people sell reconditioned ones with a 6 month warranty and that might be an option.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

Don't remember that thread, but it might have discussed getting a good will assistance via corporate Toyota. People have gotten from $1k to half off the dealer price if I remember correctly. Worth a shot.

How long do you plan on keeping your Prius? If you do keep it for several more years then a new HV battery from Toyota is your best bet. You can get a new battery for $2800 installed you were quoted which is the battery + labor.

If you're not keeping it for the long haul, then a reconditioned battery with a six month warranty from a regionally or nationally known hybrid battery rebuilder is your best bet. There are a few Priuschat members who can do this for you as well.

$2,800 including labor from a dealer is a pretty good price. About the lowest I've heard without any discount.

If you plan to keep the car for any length of time, I would go with the new battery from Toyota.

But if you are going to sell after fixing, then get one of the refurbs. Beware the warranty on the refurb is only as good as the company who is selling it.

There are only a handful that I would recommend other than Toyota for this particular type of repair.

The info in that thread can be misleading. At times locations WILL NOT sell to the general public.
In fact, sometimes they will not even sell to other shops.
    They definitely will not ship.
As noted in the updates on that thread, the Toyota battery is not a drop in replacement. There is quite a bit of dis-assembly and reassembly required.
It comes with some nuts, but not others. And each nut provided has a specific purpose. Do not mix them up!
    If you are not sure,ask.

You try this approach as mentioned:
HV Battery Goodwill Warranty Listing - Toyota Prius USA | PriusChat

It seems Toyota is helping a little less these days, but nothing ventured...nothing gained.

I agree with Eric/Becky that if $2800 is installed, well that's pretty good price. Normally we hear closer to min. $3500 with installation.

That price did not include labor.

Most of the prices in that thread do not include labor either.
I have seen dealers charge up to 5 hours for the install.
