Really? Really? You believe a "rep"? This is an insurance company you are talking to. They will say and do anything to reduce the cost or avoid paying a claim entirely. Just suck up and make the claim. That's what you pay for. So what if it costs more? How can you tell how much? Plus, it's a safety issue. Windshields protect you. And, FWIW, $1500 is a pretty inexpensive price for a piece of glass. Just don't let them give you third-party glass.

Nothing does have to hit it. It could be a stress crack.

Happened to me with my 2012 gen 3, a month or so after I installed my dash cam.

So, one morning I was backing out of the garage, and there was a 3 inch crack on the bottom left. So I parked the car, pulled the flash chip out of the dash cam and went to look into the video. The night before, when I went to park the car, no crack. Next morning crack.

When I made the claim, the insurance folks explained that stress from an installation among other things can cause it.

By the time the insurance installers showed up, it was a foot and a half long. The installers came with a generic replacement glass. So when I showed them the camera behind the rear view mirror, and how the black dots did not obscure the camera view, and when I show them the HUD, they had another truck show up with the Toyota glass.

I've been thinking I need one of them dash-cams. I called glass division of AAA and they weren't selling 3rd party glass so it seems to me that only Toyota glass is currently available. MSRP of the glass was just about $1100 from the Toyota parts counter, BTW..

Wow. Clearly an impact point. Surprised you didn't hear anything. They replaced my windshield and looks original. "Somehow" it seems they transferred my registration sticker to the new glass and it doesn't look restuck. You should probably get that replaced ASAP for safety.

There was no tape on my replaced windshield. Dropped off in morning and picked up late afternoon. Good luck.

i have amica in mass, but it's a state law here that insurance has to pay for windshield repair due to safety. they don't do it out of the goodness of their heart.

Windshield seems to be made out of butter. Found a few pits on wife's windshield already. Not chips but pitting like craters.

Wonder if there are any coatings (preferably with hydrophobic properties) that make the surface more resistant to damage. I was read

This is not a feel good thread eh! Hoping it will not happen to me but already have some chips with no dip.
Some insurance companies offer glass coverage separate. Other wise you may have a deductible to pay.

Thick blanket over the windshield will work. Just have to stick your head out the window.

I have AAA and for me glass coverage is $100 deductible, actually not bad. I am more worry about auto glass shop scratching and damaging the LDW camera. This is fairly new model so i doubt a lots shop out here know what they doing without damaging/scratching something.

Rock hit my windshield within first two weeks of ownership. The impact site easily covered by a quarter but cracks radiate out farther. Took it to Safelite and they repaired it but couldn't make it disappear. They said it should not spread but if it does they'll apply the repair cost to a replacement. I really don't like the idea of replacing a factory installed windshield on a brand new car. I wonder if this is gonna be a common problem on the 2016. Four touring btw w/o HUD.

I don't think the number of windshield issues we have seen so far are anything but normal for any model. I have over 8,000 miles on my 2016 Two (mostly on the I-10 between the Pacific and Phoenix) without any issues. We are going to see rock strikes no matter what. That's what keeps the glass companies in business. It is frustrating, however, when it happens to you.

Safelite did a similar repair on my windshield; it lasted about a year. On a really cold morning the repair spread across the lower half of the windshield.

Check with your insurance company if it does get larger; many cover glass. With some you pay your deductible.

Mine also had a 1-2 cm crack after a rock hit my windshield. Repaired by satellite but I hope it doesn't get any bigger.

Man oh man! I bought a 2016 Prius Three Touring a month ago and tonight got an 8 inch crack on my windshield. I'm getting from a rock. Really depressing. Replacement out of pocket is ridiculous. I called Toyota and Safelite, both about the same price $1500+.

I also own a 2004 Prius and have had a million rocks hit the windshield but none of them has left a crack like this.

This is very depressing and the GSWarriors lost today.

This is why I'm getting a Clearplex windshield skin installed. $350 total. It's less than the deductible for 1 broken windshield and it will prevent pits, cracks and chips.

My old Prius never got the front windshield broken, but there is an annoying line of pits across the driver's vision area. I would have gotten this back then if I had known about it.

farmers insurance has no deductible windshield replacement coverage. I think other other insurance company offers it too but it's a paid coverage just like towing and rental car.

Hi. Even if your windshield doesn't break for years, it is annoying having a marred windshield that you have to look through every day.
For $350 I wish I had done my old Prius 6 years ago. It looks so bad I've almost considered replacing it just for looks.
