T.P.M.S. (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

    Hi all, we are the proud owners of a 2016 Blizzard Pearl/Harvest Baige Four w/ATP, replacing our 2004 185k Prius. Our old faithful second gen Prius served us well, but unfortunately maintenance cost began adding up. After replacing the left front wheel bearing, all four fuel injectors and throttle body last fall, the final straw was a failed skid control ECU. No way to justify spending another $3k on repairs, we limped her into the dealership and she's gone to the great wholesaler in the sky.

    Here is my question: After increasing the tire air pressure from dealer set 37 lbs front/rear to 42/40, the owners manual states you need to perform a TPMS re-initiation. Carefully following the procedure outlined on page 608, I am unable to find locate this feature under vehicle customization. The three options that are available are: 1) Door lock settings, 2) Climate settings, and 3) Light settings.

    I have a TPMS light on the dash at start up and what looks like valve sensors on the wheels, so what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

    On 3rd gen it's just a button under the dash, lol.

    Maybe you're in the wrong section, should be "vehicle settings" not "vehicle customization"?

    OK I found and corrected my error! I was not following step 6 correctly, instead of using the steering wheel meter mode, I was using the touch screen. Thank you for the help, I can now sleep tonight! :>)

    Cars are getting too complicated with the MFD (Multi Function Display). Things that used to have their own button are increasingly just dumped in there. I can think of other words for that acronym. :)

    As I mentioned, being a long time second generation owner, I would have expected a quick delivery of our new Prius...boy was I wrong! We sat in our new car for almost 1.5 hours with the car running with air while our young salesman explained all the technical gadgets and how to use them, along with programming our two Android phones. I couldn't remember my own name after receiving that amount of technical info. I have since invested many hours reading the manual and applying/functions...simply incredible technology. I really love this car, well done Toyota!

    Do you know: will the Bluetooth respond when either phone rings? With our third generation it's one or the other, and to switch which takes some messing around.

    Is there a way to edit the tires pressure sensors' ID using Carista or other OBD II device?

    On another note:
    I think the best way to get used to the features is by setting everything to default and then checking the manual whenever something is not clear and adjusting as required. Going through everything at once is overwhelming even for me, quite the geek. And I don't think it is Toyota's purpose to overwhelm. The user's manual is something I read once when I get the car (I mean, I buy a car once every X years, I think it is not at all a bad idea to actually take a couple of hours, even, to go through the thing once), to at least have an afterthought that I read something about "it" when "it" happens, and then use it as a reference and nothing more.

    Actually I find Japanese cars quite self explaining (my father has had an Honda Jazz and now still an Insight, used it perfectly myself both, never read a line of both manuals).

    I had recently a VW Golf Sportsactive as a rental for work, I was at a loss even for some basic functions (I could not even understand how to fold the rear seats!) - it was everything but intuitive. And when the washer liquid was about to finish, instead of a simple icon and maybe a written text, a full blown useless 3D car model with the car washer tank highlighted in *full* detail (I kid you not, it looked as a CAD/CAM design model directly from VW designers' work station), totally useless and, most of all, completely distracting. I went like "Wth!!".
    I had also a Mercedes C class a few months back as rental, I could not even understand how to use the wiper. It required the most odd movement of the hand (essentially pushing the lever *into* the steering column...).

    In comparison using a Prius is like using a Mac (vs Windows). It's intuitive.
    I entered my Gen3 and within 3 mins I essentially knew where everything was and how it worked and I could simply enjoy driving and looking at the road.
