It's time for 30k service for my 2007 Prius (yes we don't drive much). I was told that with the age (will be 9 yrs old in August) it's better to do extra fluid replacement than what's recommended by Toyota, including transmission, brake, engine coolant, and inverter coolant. Budget is a high concern at this moment, so any comment is welcome. Thanks.

If budget is a high concern, I would just continue doing timely oil changes for now. Everything else is just maintenance....

Thanks! Would there be damages if we delay changing the four fluids? Is it better to use synthetic oil for Gen 2?

I don't think there's any harm in delaying a year or two. You should stick with non synthetic 5w-30, if that's what you've been using. Change every calendar year or 5000 miles, whichever comes first.

It is late to bring this up, but each interval is expressed in mileage AND MONTHS. You should be doing the correct service every 6 months, even if the mileage is low.

    http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms/07ToyMS_MS0003/pdf/07omsour/2007/07toysmt/71w1smt.pdf

You should have done all the services for past 102 months.

Without knowing where you live, I could not prioritize which ones to do first.
Coolant in hot weather, brake fluid where it is humid, battery where it is cold, etc.

Thanks JC91006 and JimboPalmer. I live in the San Francisco Bay area; and yes we've been pretty good at following up the book. I will be curious of whether anyone could recommend a non-dealership shops in the east/south bay area.

Hi JimboPalmer, I checked on the link about service schedule. Up to 102 months, I did not see anywhere listing the need to change the 4 fluids under normal driving condition. Did I miss anything? Is it necessary to change the four fluids?

You have said that spending on vehicle maintenance is a high concern. Therefore, the highest priority is to replace engine oil and the oil filter annually. Use regular, name-brand 5W-30 oil (not synthetic) to respect your budget. At 30K miles, change the engine air filter and cabin air filter. You can do all of this yourself.

The SF Bay Area has moderate climate and I would not be unduly concerned about replacing the four fluids at this time. With such low usage, your vehicle maintenance program other than engine oil changes should be to keep the 12V battery on a battery tender or use a battery charger monthly, to maximize service life for the battery.

There is no official Toyota service interval for the Transaxle ATF. While I recommend 30,000 miles, then 90,000 miles then every 90,000 miles, it is a just a personal balance between cost and protection. You could just as easy decide every 60,000 miles works for you. Just change it regularly. (I drive 30,000 miles a year so I have never considered the idea of ATF by months)

Brake fluid ages due to humidity in the air. It will be fine much longer in Tuscon AZ than in New Orleans LA. There are inexpensive test strips you can use to measure the humidity in your brake fluid. I do not think either months or miles are important, just water in you brake fluid lowers it's boiling point and causes rust. Neither sounds like the brakes I need.

The coolants also include rust inhibitors, but mostly just need to keep your engine cool. There is a specific gravity test to see when it would boil. The test should be cheap.

The San Fransisco Bay should be humid and cool, so the brake test may be more important than the coolant tests.

Thanks Patrick! Just checked on youtube on oil change, will search for engine air filter later.

Thanks JimboPalmer. Auto repair Berkeley recommended on their website to replace these four fluids at 30k service. They let me decide whatever number of fluids to be replaced now and they will do as I like. Is invert coolant considered the same category as engine coolant?

It uses the exact same fluid, it is just a separate loop with a different ideal temperature.
