Hi everyone, my wife and I are excited to have sold our 6cyl 3 series this weekend and move forward to a much more economical and environment friendly vehicle. We never thought we would be looking for a prius but I suppose my mid life crisis is maturity :). We are in the wny area and are looking for a vehicle that we would not have to replace for a solid 5 yrs, at least. I have been reading and reading and cannot tell the difference in some vehicles if they are the 3 or 4. I have asked this listing and they were unsure as well. rochester. craigslist. ad # 5627684271 Can I ask the opinion of the forum to help us rookies decipher if this is truly a good deal? We were originally leaning towards this one westherr that is a 2011 four but the leather wasn't appealing as we will be moving to SC shortly where those seats may be too hot for comfort. Then reading about the entune and few design changes that came out in 2012 which has us leaning towards the 2012+ area. Our goal is to get the vehicle on the road with taxes paid around 14K. Thanks for your time reading this and we look forward to contributing and learning with others here.

sorry for not being able to post direct links as I am not allowed as of yet

That is a Prius plug in. Interesting that they completely fail to mention that in the ad.

welcome to priuschat! if you want to keep it at least 5 years, start with 150k and subtract your estimated miles driven over the next 5 years. if the pip fits the bill, and the price is 14k or less, go for it! all the best.(y)

Ask the seller for the VIN and check its maintenance history with Toyota. If it has been maintained and serviced regularly, it appears that the price is within reason for its age and condition.

The Prius brochures are on line. Download them for each model year of interest so you'll know what is included and what isn't for each level. The Plug in Prius will have its own brochure.

Hey - we bought a Certified Pre-Owned 2013 Prius (23K miles) from Hoselton today, for a bit more than $15,000. Dorshel in Henrietta had a certified 2012 Prius 2 (53K miles) for $14,000 flat that looked like a great deal. We just wanted a bit newer/fewer miles. Hoselton also had some others in stock that might be worth looking at.

hey everyone, I have been in contact with her all day and she provided me the vin Jtdkn3dp5d3046205, I do not think she realizes it is a plug in as well, since she never once mentioned it but the vin I ran states it is indeed a plugin though. So am I safe to say that is even better for us? I do not have anyway of taking advantage of the plug in except for when I am at the university but from my reading it should run jus the same as a normal prius and the plug in can be used as an advantage basically. I ask because we are taking the 90 minute drive soon and will be meeting her at 6. If its a go I will be driving it home as I have made all the proper arrangements just to be safe :)

As a current 2013 Prius plugin owner here in tropical WNY, I feel that the craigslist Prius listing in Rochester is being offered at a great price.
Be sure to run a car fax on the vehicle as well as have a local dealer or mechanic verify its integrity.

Ask if you can review the most recent service record on the car; especially the health checkup that Toyota (if Toyota did the service) does as part of its routine maintenance. It will tell you what that service tech found that might need to be addressed.

During your test drive, turn off the radio and listen carefully for any unusual noises or rattles. Verify the radio does work before turning off the car.

If everything is in order, I think you'll be happy with your new Prius. If you find things that are less than as described, note the issue and negotiate an adjustment to the price.

the only major difference is, the pip has no spare tyre, and basically no storage under the hatch floor, compared to the lift back. but i feel it gets a couple mpg more due to the larger li-on battery, and if you can ever take advantage of plugging in, that's a huge plus.

make sure you get the charging cord, and test it. and also 2 fobs, they are expensive!

Well we just got home after driving through a monsoon of a storm. I have to say what a disappointment. A little research before we left helped us to discover that the car was at a small time dealer, gps took us through the ghetto and we just had a bad feeling in our guts. The feeling was true, after 5 minutes we turned the test drive around and said it was not for us. So since we were in Rochester we decided to explore. We went to 3 more places and ended up at the Toyota dealership. (sidenote, i used to sell cars for a short period in my life so I was ready for there games ) We met a nice bunch of people and the salesman let us look at the inventory list. Two jumped out at us instantly! And of course we played it down stating that it really was not what we wanted but we can kick the tire for the heck of it. We found a 2013 white with black interior plugin in IMMACULATE condition. It had 40k on it and they were asking $15k for it. After two rounds of back and forth we settled for the price with taxes ,reg, inspection and the car for almost what they were asking for. They told me they were losing money and I replied "I noticed the car inventory puts this car in your lot for 74 days! Thats a bad turn around time and in fact your now losing money everyday that it sits" They agreed sold us the car and even offered me a job lol. So we signed and cannot wait to drive back and pick it up. Pics to come and smiles to folloow...We finally own a hybrid!!

Hey guys, just got the new car home and am downloading the entune update now, Plan to install and snap a few pics :) to share.

the CL one was at a shady little gas station dealer, I could hear a slight high tune pitch that I never heard, filthy (compared to the dealers), scratches and when we were leaving we saw something hanging from the bottom. More than enough to walk away from

oh and missing the plug for the pip ... which hurts the main point of the pip i would say
