Hi all, I am new the group and (sorta) new to fixing cars. I could use some help. I am leaving town for a month and I got a check engine light. Went to AutoZone, found out it was the “upstream o2 sensor.” They recommended a Bosch sensor part number 15974. (AutoZone said it is the upstream sensor)

I am in a hurry this week and wanted to get it taken care of before I leave town. Because of that, I asked a mechanic I know to take care of it for me (which annoys me because I could totally fix it but I don’t have the time too). He mentioned his concern with Bosch sensors and that they don’t always work right. As I have done some reading, it seems like I should have gone to the dealer for the part. I don’t know what to think at this point.

Did I get the wrong part?(

You have the right bosch. Alternatively, a denso 2349056 works.

Your mechanic likely has a prejudice based only on his negative experience and not the typical performance of bosch.

You can go to the dealer, but you will likely get EXACTLY the same part as one of the two parts above, except it will cost a lot more.

Why don't you wait until you return to fix the O2 sensor? It's probably best to get the correct Denso part, but at this point, I don't think you can bring the part back for a refund....those parts are usually not returnable. There's nothing wrong with using the Bosch sensor....it's just a sensor.

I was able to make the A/F sensor error go away on my Lexus by cleaning the MAF sensor, cleaning the throttle body.....and putting in some high octane gas. I had let the car sit too long and the error came up. After the cleaning and new gas.....all is good again.

Wow thanks. That's good to know. I am hoping that the car doesn't have any other issues. I know that some times these codes can really mean other problems. Keeping fingers crossed.
