    From here:

Quel sera le prix de Prius 4 rechargeable en Europe?
(What will be the European price of the Prius PHV?)

    Roughly translated:

According to Japanese forums, some have managed to obtain pricing information from their Toyota dealers for the Prius PHV.

As before, there are 3 trim levels

    S ~ ¥3.2-3.3 million
A ~ ¥3.8-3.9 million (This will include DCFC capability)
A Premium ~ ¥4.2-4.3 million (This will include the solar panel roof, CHaDEMO, GPS)

    A few things to note:

    1. All prices above include Japanese consumption tax (8%)
    2. Regular Prius ranges from ¥2.48 million for the equivalent S 2WD to ¥3.1 million for the A Premium 2WD (The full Prius price range is greater because of the Touring models and 4WD models)
    3. The prices above (removing the 8% tax) translate to $29,000-$39,000. Obviously there are taxes for importing to the US, local US market competition, varying equipment level and other factors that will vary the price and we won't get CHaDEMO or solar roof so you can knock off a bit from the top end price. (e.g. the regular S 2WD translates to US$22,000 and the A Premium 2WD is US$28,000, A Premium Touring Selection is $29,000)

Take away message: It looks like the base Prime might start off where the top end Prius ends.

$29k MSRP on a base trim Prime would be great! Here, with the $4.5k federal tax credit and $1.5k California tax rebate, that's only $23k. That's close to a base trim lift back. After initial pent up demand eases Toyota will eventually offer incentives to sweeten the deal more.

Years from now when Toyota runs out of federal credits, the battery will cost substantially less and they will have more room to lower the MSRP and/or offer aggressive incentives.

Think he means, that Toyota previously announced that there would be three trim levels on the Prime. This is just further confirmation now with presumptive pricing for Japan.

What of plug in incentives in Japan? Previous hybrid ones have been a direct subsidy to the car company. These prices could be after incentive.

I'm just translating what the site said. I'm guessing there were 3 trim levels in Japan. In the US, we had 2 with an option package. There was Base, Advanced and Advanced w/ Tech Package (earlier models only offered base and Advanced with all the goodies).

I think the Prime's Japanese base price is the same as the Japanese PiP's base price in 2011/2012.

No. It's that Toyota Japan probably offered 3 trim levels for the PiP so the article is stating that TMC will offer 3 levels once again for the Japanese market. This has nothing to do with NA as we are still awaiting the announcement of packaging and pricing.

Not sure how much pressure exchange rates effect Toyota models manufactured in Japan and sold in the United States. Compared to 4-5 years ago, exchange rates are markedly more favorable for the U.S. now.

Theoretically, assuming Japan sells the Prime there for the same price as the Japanese PiP's base price in 2011/2012, they should be able to sell the Prime for less in the U.S. than the U.S. PiP when it rolled out. I was on the pre-order wait list for the PiP which delivered in Spring 2012 at an MSRP of $32,000.

Then that's a good thing. The PiP has had no problems in the emissions department to leave any bad memories.

In Holland there is only one price for a fully loaded model and it is the same price as the normal P4.

You mean the same price as the most luxury version of the P4. The basic version of P4 is 5000 euro cheaper. This is in line with the info from Japan.

Yep looked at my invoice the other day, $32,500. Then for the 2014/2015 models the base Prius Plug-in was dropped to $29,990. The advanced Prius Plug-in dropped to $34,905 from $39,525.

So is the (base) Prime coming in at $29,990 or $32,500?

So there is no extra price for the Prime, incredible.

    Really? That's fantastic!

I doubt we'll get that kind of deal. At best, a base Prime will be the same as a fully loaded Gen 4 (or just below it, like the PiP) and a loaded Prime will of course be higher than that.

The exchange rate is a bit less favourable in Canada since last summer. We've been enjoying good value when the CAD was at parity with the USD. Back in 2005 when we bought our Gen 2, the base price in the US was ~$20,000. In Canada, it was $30,000 because the exchange rate was 1.5x compared to USD. Also, CAD$1 = ¥100. Now it's ¥78 (or ¥100 = $1.28) so depending on how long it stays this way, we may start seeing prices creep up (and we already have with the RAV4 and a number of Lexus products)
