Do you pay attention to the "Average Speed" or "Trip Cost" infomation?

    In the information display to the right of the speedometer, you can press "Trip" once or twice to see the information for either Trip A or Trip B. Under the actual Settings, there is an area to change whether you see the "Trip Cost" or the "Average Speed" (in MPH). I have tried out both, and I find myself using the "Trip Cost" more regularly than the "Average Speed" in order to see how much it has cost my Prius to operate before I make that once-a-month visit to the Petro station.

    I have occasionally switched to the "Average Speed," however, I don't quite find it nearly as useful for the information it provides. Nonetheless, the number it shows is simply the average of the entire trip, it's just more of a feature that would be neater if I were taking a trip longer than 30 minutes.

    Do any of you use either of these features in combination to using Trip A or the Trip B? Why?

    i use the average speed to compare mpg's for different trips. the only problem is, it's simply a distance divided by time equation. so if your sitting at a lot of lights, that brings the speed down, which really isn't accurate, since the engine is usually off.

    I like the Trip Cost on the Shutdown screen. Wasn't aware you could get a running Trip Cost on the Trip screen. I never look at Avg Speed on the Trip Screen. Only Miles and Avg MPG.

    The low battery indicator for my key fob keeps overlapping the shutdown screen. So, no I don't pay attention to it. Oh and I refuse to waste the fob battery so until it runs out, I'm not changing it. It's really annoying how I've been getting this notification for 6 months now.

    Fuel Cost is really worthless as it only shows how much you spent over the total miles you drove since the last reset of the trip odometer.

    Speed is also really worthless unless you are a cabbie or something similar. IMO both items are non useful data that is being presented for eye candy more than anything else.

    The data at shutdown is more than sufficient if one is interested in monitoring cost vs time etc.

    The shutdown screen (cost of trip) shows the miles/cost/avg mph of the last trip, power on to power off. I find it quite useful...maybe you need to be running in Trip A or Trip B, which I do out of habit. I let Trip A accumulate miles on a fill-up, and I monitor trip cost after each power down.

    If you divide the displayed trip average speed into the displayed trip distance, that tells you the "READY" time for the trip. Subtract that calculated time from the overall trip time (according to your watch), and you have the time spent on breaks, refueling stops, etc., if you care.

    Aside from that obscure purpose, it's kinda useless.

    Like many, I like the info that is displayed upon shutdown. Really gives me a tally of how I did.
