I was about to look for a set of stock rims with tires since I have some tires on it that I don't think are LRR. I was getting 46 mpg which didn't make sense so I google my tires and they are just regular economy tires. Later I got the idea maybe the oil isn't right after reading an article and so I put some Mobil 1 0-20w and sure enough the next day I'm at 54 mpg. Geez, why do people do that. I bet they had regular non synthetic 10-40 or something. So now I wonder if I did get LRR tires would it make much difference.

There are so many simple and painless tweaks to get agreat MPG. There is a questionnaire that is a good first step. I don't have a link to it but certainly a good first step. We can chat about Bob's tricks another day. <GRINS>

Yes, toyota get some serious testing on this and right oil can improve your mpg. From what I saw, it was the price of the added cost of this oil regular to standard ones /do not remember number/. Added cost was app 40 EUR and also expected savings was app 40 EUR on fuel within 1 year.

The store I went to regular Castrol oil was $15 and Mobil 1 was $22 so only $7 difference which is about 4 EUR. That should pay me back in about 2 tank fill ups with 7 mpg per gallon increase. The oil shouldn't have made that much of a difference but I bet the previous owner was dumb and put 20-50w oil. I should have changed the oil immediately but it was super clean. Then it dawned on me that I have no idea what oil that is.

Yes, it is too much gain for oil change :) I payed 80eur for oil change, but toyota dealer offers me both standard with much lower price or this one for better mpg. With their more than 100% margin, I believe that oil will not cost more than 20:))
edit- I just found invoice, they give me toyota oil 0W-20 4.2l - 80.6eur - so hoping they did not ripp me off :)

Ouch! Here I buy Toyota 0W20 in bulk from local dealership for $4.50 (Canadian) per liter, or individual 1 liter bottles for $5.91. At current exchange rates, 4.2 liters (of bulk) would cost me 13.12 Euros, over four times more for you.

Yes :) .. I already found good toyota service guy/he changed me rear breaks and does not want even 20 from me/ and I will not use original toyota service for such a things ;). But you know, after I bought used Prius, I let the official toyota dealer made full service at least once.

One frequent 'mileage killer' is overfilling the oil. An oil change may have brought the oil level down to where it was not slowing the crankshaft.
