I could envisage a few very minor changes around the edges. Such as replacing bone china on the console with stygian black or adding a 12V output inside the console compartment. But I would not expect much more for the next 5 years

Ah I hadn't thought about gas prices affecting the base MSRP but I can definitely see that. I was just looking at the historical national gas price averages and it is continuing to trend low for the past couple of years. I would also think after the 1st year learning curve with making the Gen4 it could bring some of their manufacturing costs down too.

How likely do you think we could see an MSRP drop with the 2017 model?

    If so, by how much?

I don't think there will be a 2017 model. The previous Gen3 had the original version (MY09?), then the MY12 went from 2012 to 2015.

As for prices, the Japanese YEN has increased in value, which could force prices of Japanese goods up. Sales of not only Hybrids but also Electric Vehicles (EV) and Plug in Hybrids (PHEV) are below expectations due to the cheap fuel. When fuel skyrockets in price again, I'd be surprised if demand for Hybrids, EV & PHEV (and small vehicles) will grow proportionally - and demand for lumbering trucks and SUVs will drop. Bear in mind, though, that manufacturers could possibly artificially tweak prices, particularly of VERY low MPG vehicles at least in USA, as they need to maintain their CAFE ratings.

I think you may be misunderstanding. I am not suggesting GEN5 will come out with the 2017. From what I have seen so far there is a new model released ever year. However, if it is within the same generation there are small tweaks.

Anything is possible - but TOYOTA haven't done this in the past with Prius. The Gen 3 was out for 6 years, with one tweak after 3 years - called MY12 which was MY12 until the end of 2015 in USA, (or till March 2016 in Australia). You could ask a dealer - they may know?

Re: 2017, I thought Bob Wilson was waiting for 2 eco to get some of the safety tech (autonomous breaking). I thought there were some changes for 2017 in this regard. Somebody correct me.

Dang it if Bob did not wait for 2017...he went for a used BMW i3 BEV

As owner of first a 2010 and now a 2012 model, I wouldn't dismiss the 2012 makeover that mildly. Externally, the grill, DRLs, turn signals, wheel covers, and taillight changes are quite noticeable to me. Some internal changes were also useful to me, though the waters are a bit muddied by the fact that I also upgraded a level.

Ah good find. I just looked at the Prius hatchback model specs comparison and right now Toyota Safety Sense (TSS-P) is part of the Advanced Technology package.

It sounds like that could be a small package change to include that for all 2017 Prius models.

I expect a few housekeeping tweaks but nothing much.
I had hoped to be pleasantly surprised, but the Prime styling suggests that.....well....old farts like me are probably going to be thrust into new territory with respect to automotive styling as our current cars wear out.

    For now?
If a cell phone queen or GPS jock turns me into a new car shopper, and not an organ doner, I might have to cast a wider net if all of the 2015's are gone.

Ah these posts have been very informative!

I live in a new neighborhood street in San Antonio Texas, the street has been around since April 2015. I forgot to check while I was at the dealer to see if the GPS maps had my address.

What has been your guys experience with how long it takes for new streets to show up in map updates?

Also, I haven't been able to find a clear answer but who is the data provider for the NAV system?

No, I live in the 7th largest city in the US. So depending on traffic my commute to work can vary from 16 to 50 minutes.

Even though I know the roads well I use Google Maps everyday to give me the fastest route for the current conditions. Which does change every day.

I would like to have the flexibility to do that on Toyota Entune.

Yes but you are going astray. I am asking about if anyone has seen how long it takes for new streets to show up in map updates.

TomTom/TeleAtlas is the provider. However, I've noticed they don't match up. This one time I updated my TomTom (1 year free map updates + 2 bonus). I updated the Toyota nav around the same time and it had most of the updates but not all of them. In fact, checking the latest one (15.1 from Nov 2015), it's still missing a few new roads that my TomTom has.
