I had the same clicking sound when braking and turning. My noise goes away when I release the brake so I don't think it's the CV joint. Toyota replaced the left axle at 36K and right axle at 46k. The noise is gone. Also the noise is audible during winter weather.

I've run Toyotas into the high 100k's and have never even considered having an issue with a drive shaft and so early on top of that. Thanks for the insight. Think I'll do the same.

I have the same issue - I notice the clicking usually the first stop i make in the morning and seems louder when i'm almost stopped and turning slightly to the right during the stop. I have 20+ years under my belt as a professional automotive technician and I have never heard a sound similar to this caused by rust on the rotors. Judging by the number of clicks i hear per full rotation of the front wheel, it is something with teeth or something making more than 1 full rotation per 1 full rotation of the tire. Also guessing its inside the power train. The fact folks bothered to post here sounds like some sort issue is happening which Toyota is not disclosing at this point. I have about 70K on my prius and i stated to hear it about 10K ago. The dealer has been very little help with any of my previous noises and they said they were unable to reproduce it. It happens every morning for me. She keeps going though and has 49 mpg (actual not dash computer calculated) average for the 70K i put on it.
Hope Toyota figures out this issue and fixes it. I have an other which has happened about 4 time in 70K also. When the car starts in the AM it sounded like there was a belt slapping around inside the engine or trans and the engine feels very rough. None the less she keep on trucking after a quick restart with no sign of the noise... I have no clue with this one and originally though an animal got caught in the engine belt but after finding out that there were no belts on this engine, i was baffled and seeked help from the dealer twice with no cigar. This car has put the joy back into joy riding for us with its economy! Not comfort though, lol!
    Cheers,
    Steven

The weird engine noise on startup in the morning happens when you start the engine cold in the evening, and turn it off again before it warms up. The following morning it will feel like it's going to fall apart for a min or two, and then all is well. Think it has to do with condensation, maybe?

Has anyone made any progress on the clicking noise when coming to a stop? Sounds like replacing the CVs will fix the problem, even though they aren't "bad" in a traditional sense. I'm wondering if something about the disassembly process makes the difference? Loose bolt or something?

Believe it or not, My2006 scion xb made the same noise and I drove it over 162,000 miles. It just may be the way it is.

Hmm, that's really interesting. I always assumed it had to do with the regenerative braking since it was not audible when the car is in N.

It has something to do with the brakes. In the XB, it would "click" from a dead stop, especially on my first start in the morning. Its like the brakes are "re-setting".
