    Also do a google search for "best phone for #####" your carrier.

    You could do much worse than Apple.

    My beef is:

    Proprietary non interoperability stuff
    Can't open it up
    No user added memory

    But that is how they got rich:ROFLMAO:

    Would get the Galaxy S7 Edge if I had money to burn. 5S ( new) can be had for a better price these days.

    FWIW that is the exact iPhone I use with our Prius v, ie. an iPhone 5s 16 GB model. My wife uses an iPhone 4 64 GB model. We are with AT&T...

    Personally I like Apple iPhones because of the tight control of the operating system, ie. the OS. The same with Microsoft Windows Phones. That is a personal preference of course.

    Corrected iPhone memory size...

    FWIW I never use Siri while driving...

    I noticed in a later post you said you were able to play back a text message while driving the other day. Has that been repeatable, ie. has the issue magically fixed itself?

    If not have you tried un-pairing the phone from the car both in the car settings and on the iPhone in Settings > Bluetooth, clicking on the little blue "I" symbol the Forgetting this Network then re-pairing the phone to the car?

    To add I have never connected either of our iPhones to the car using a USB cable. We have always used Bluetooth connections...

    Update: Added last comment about USB cable...

    That is the question. Will take awhile to research this as we always have two 5S's in the car and it is hard to keep them separated. I had recently cleared all my stuff out of my wife's car and linked her phone with phone book etc. It worked for about a week and suddenly her phone stopped being linked. That's when I got the no kidding voice text message on the Prius screen for playback from my 5S. First time ever not on a USB cable/maybe. Maybe the previous use of a USB cable did something in the linkage?????

    Multiple issues here: FW/software update for etune and 5S, endless menu options checked, phone not manually linked, messing with weather app in car on both 5s's, trying to get the WX map up during a bad storm,who knows?

    I will try it today.

    Just hold down the phone button on the steering wheel to invoke Siri. After the tone say "read new message". The indication on the Prius screen I get with a new message only has an ignore button active. Very occasionally it has worked to read the message. But Siri always works. And it will ask you if you want to reply, check with you about the reply before sending, etx.

    Does it mater which button. There is an off hook and on hook. I assume you mean off hook.



    Did a test on the silver car and could not get a message to display on the Prius screen. I am taking the white one on a long trip and will try these hints.

    So far I have only got two messages, in the white car only, to properly display and playback. One on a USB cable and one without.

    There is definitely more going on behind the scenes and too many variables to test.

    I checked both cars and etune was up and running. I think there may not have been a phone linked to the Prius when I got the playback on the white car. Very strange.

    Use Siri. The whole system is buggy. I have had the whole touchscreen fail - can't do anything.

    OK, did a learning test of SIRI on the trip and it is very specific on how to use but it rocks.
    No messages on the Prius screen for the whole trip.
    So I deleted all the phone info in the Prius and started from scratch. I had to call the dealer to get it working again as you also have to delete your BT links in you iPhone.

    Now how do you get your phone book contacts to display on the first split screen???????????????????Think there are better options for the Prius than the 5S. Just too many work arounds and the messaging does not work on the Prius screen. Also the voice command button on the steering wheel does not help with messaging. So only SIRI works on a reliable basis using the exact steps and the off hook phone button.. It is all blank slots but the phone book shows in the data base.

    Could the blanks be speed dials? In the older nav versions, there's a separate section for speed dials that is independent of your phone book.

    Yes, since the dealer set that up it was the first time I did it. So is there a limit to how many speed dial numbers?

    Ahh, I see it's called "favorites" in the new system, not speed dial. Guess the term "speed dial" is going the way of the dodo.

    15 contacts is the limit. Page 180.
