I haven't purchased mine yet... But perhaps I can say this: I'm an engineer and enjoy owning fine pieces of engineering. I've always wanted a well designed car but have always had different priorities. I live out in the country and WAS considering the purchase of a new pickup truck as a replacement for the one I lost a year ago in a divorce. Then I happened upon a youtube review on the 2016 Prius just a very few weeks ago. I'm stuck on the road for the moment but should be back home within a few days. I like the new design. All of your cars are remarkable. The Prius is elegant in its purpose driven design; efficiency. I'm particularly impressed with how the engine mates with the motor and the battery. The aerodynamic lines are beautiful for what they do. Small vortex generators placed in effective places. While people mostly consider the mileage, I look at the total package as an amazing feat of engineering.

So, to all of you who've received negative comments... and I can say this because I don't have one (yet)... they are beautiful machines for many reasons besides just the mileage. That is why I want to replace my car with one. The truck can bloody well wait.

I haven't personally heard any negative opinions on the looks (other than on this forum occasionally, LOL). I have been taking my car out to lunch from work a few times in the past couple of weeks, parking it and sitting where I can see it and have noticed several people stopping as they walk by to take a second look. I got a compliment while filling up at a gas station the other day, guy in a big gas guzzler truck said it looked "cool". I've gotten a couple of comments from co-workers on the interior, one saying it looked "cool", the other saying it "looks like a space shuttle". I took that positively.

I can think of at least a handful of come backs to the last comment. My initial thought is to ask her, when she walks up to her front door, to do so in reverse so you won't have to see her crazy, lumpy ###.

I voted neutral. I don't get much looks or feedback. I do get certain folks who race past me and take me over on the lane I'm cruising in...

    Ha!

I've had several people take photos of my car while I've been driving. I take that as a compliment!

I was fascinated by Gen 2 Prius' technology and engineering - considered one in 2006, but got cold feet (bought a small hatch for ½ the price instead). Then in 2011 considered one again - went closer to getting one, but bought a small diesel (my second). This time - seeing how diesel is falling from favour, and potential problems with DPFs (particulate filters) on new models - only way to go was a Prius. Here in Australia, EVs aren't really viable except for city cars as there is no charging infrastructure

I've had nobody comment negatively about the appearance - a few have said it's unusual, but not negative.

No offense intended, but I notice that the more mature and educated people gravitate towards and notice my Prius...

Darn, I knew I shouldn't have picked up on reading self-enriching books, and then I would've ended up with that cool Mustang or Camaro instead! Oh well, I still have the sport bike to balance that out and keep the "insane" side of me kicking and breathing...

While this came from TOYOTA UK or Europe, it's one of the best descriptions of the improvements I've read.

THE NEW TOYOTA PRIUSTHE REBIRTH OF THE PIONEER

Also, check out Fuelly records, the 2016 owners are reporting substantial improvements on previous years:

Thanks Alan. I found this part very interesting, since I always use the PWR mode:

"Power mode gives emphasis to acceleration feel.
The new Prius benefits from a drive assist system to provide a more responsive driving experience. The adaptive system continuously monitors the vehicle’s G-forces to understand driver behaviour and habits, a function activated when the driver selects Power mode. The hybrid system responds to the driver’s desire for more sporty performance, adjusting engine braking performance and throttle response."

I wonder how it monitors the vehicle's G-forces to understand driver behavior? G-forces???
PWR mode even adjusts the engine braking performance?

I don't quite understand it, but my Prius sure seems to drive better. :D
