2005 throwing code p1121

    Code says P1121 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Range/Performance Problem
    I heard that was wrong and its really coolant control valve?
    The battery drains fast and the can runs like crap
    Would this code be doing that to the car?

    The P1121 would not have any adverse effect on the way the car runs.......that would be a completely different issue. Most likely facing a battery failure

    P1121 points to the coolant valve.

    Sure is, I use it for work
    I'm a rural mail carrier..
    The last 100k miles have been hard miles!
    Still going good besides the battery but that's bound to happen
    Just pick up a 2007 Prius with 112k yesterday!

    they say using the battery is good for it. i guess yours is more testimony.

    How do you test the battery?
    Take to toyota? Take battery out and test cells with meter?

    it's a bit complicated. there are several good threads here though. check out the one by @ryousideways.
    the best way is with toyota tech stream software. you can test the modules while driving or individually, but you must put them under load to find the bad ones. then, after replacing, there's a seriously time consuming balancing process.

    they won't do it, you can try a rebuilt dorman from an auto parts place. 3 year warranty on the battery, no labor. around $1400. plus install. a new one from toyota is around $2200. plus install.
    steve at autobeyours is a great guy in indiana, might be too far from you?

    the only other option is dumping the car. so you have 4 pretty diverse options, but none that qualify as a go to. pretty much everyone with a bad battery struggles with this.

    one thing someone mentioned was, buy a new battery, and as cars wear out, swap it around, or resell it.

    2005 Prius... As people have said it is the coolant control valve. Ask your dealer if it is still covered by the warranty.

    i took the cap off the coolant and it was moving around, so does that mean it is working? guy told me that works on prius that the control valve can cause it not to charge because the inverter gets to hot??

    Hello Derko

    What happened to me was in my 2005 prius was this error code. I would clear it out with the OBDII reader and it would come on again intermittently. I suggest taking it into the dealer when it happens and see if the coolant control valve is still under warranty. Mine was under warranty and did not have to pay anything. If you do have to change it out of warranty I believe the part is $275 + Labor. In total if I had pay it out of pocket with no warranty it would have been $850 - 1K with parts.

    Do it as soon as possible.

    Is this a recall through Toyota?
    I bought the car from a small family dealer a few years ago, would toyota be able to do anything?

    Take it to the dealer and see if it is still covered by manufacture's warranty If not then just buy the part and install it yourself to save money. If not then pay the $400+ to the dealer + part price.
