Be careful when using the DRCC on the turns. It's meant for the straights. You'll have no problems with brake wear. My 242,000 mile gen 2 has its original brake pads.

People just have to buy a Prius and drive the car. People don't believe me when I tell them all the things our car can do and the money in repairs that is saved. "But its a Prius!" is what they usually say. One fellow co-worker bought a new Ford Focus. 6 months later she is having "electrical" issues.............................

I know you'll be pleased the more you drive it and the longer you own it. Can beat the reliability, the roomy hatch and cargo hauling ability or the MPG's! I became a first time Toyota and Prius owner in 2009. Now at almost 200,000 miles and very very very few repairs, I can only think of buying another Prius. Same holds true for others in my family. A sister-in-law still owns their first Prius and is currently driving number 3.

Does your model come with the speed limiter function? I was exploring my manual today and realised my car does have this function.

I notice this with our Garmin too. On most routes, its maps include speed limit data. It can get dated, and sometimes doesn't precisely agree with signage. But it's pretty good for the most part. If you exceed the speed limit the Garmin display of the speed you're going turns red.

Well I hope you enjoy your Prius.
Nobody would accuse you of NOT thinking it out.

People buy vehicles for a vast, diverse and often complicated number of reasons.
Often it's not about what they may really need primarily, but more about an image they want to embrace.

A lot of people would buy a huge truck...because they "might" have to haul something...once or twice a year.
Refreshing to have someone that actually sat down and thought about realistic need in relationship to the product they were contemplating buying.

That being said...I have an urge to buy a lifted monster truck, ride around by myself. Fill up every 3 days, and fail DEQ.

I think it's pent up rebellion against the 3 years of sensibility represented by my Prius. How much efficient, low emissions, perfectly sane and sensible driving can one man stand?

    Deliver me from temptation.

What exactly is your "Garmin?" I know they make GPS units, but do you have it mounted in your dash or something?

Yeah a GPS, couldn't think of the word lol. It has a suction cup mount; I put it on the glass of the little triangle window, next to lower left corner of windshield. Our 2010 doesn't have built in Nav.

I'll learn to use mine but I don't know if I'll ever need to use it. I just don't venture into much unknown territory I guess.

It puts you in a different mindset, I find. Can be helpful, invaluable on vacation. But at the same time, sort of stifles your ability to be intuitive, sleuth out the route.

Time to get that "Toy car". You know, the one that only gets driven on the weekends. Or get your "mod" thing going on your Prius, that's what I did..............

My glasses don't fit in the sunglasses holder now so I won't miss it in the next car.

I don't use the DRCC on rolling terrain let alone "mountains" because I prefer to maintain power, not speed. Accelerating uphill and braking downhill kills me. Could the grade be so steep that the car doesn't brake hard enough to maintain the set speed and overruns it by a few mph? My guess is that your mountains are steeper and longer than the mountains I've encountered in PA.

My Garmin GPS is attached to a beanbag mount sitting on my dash. I've noticed the cruise control's set speed doesn't match the speedometer which doesn't match the GPS. I don't have another set of eyes in the car to document the differences.

My LKA beeps when the lane is too wide, the markers are not clear, or I get too close to the line. The tugging to maintain position in the lane is noticeable when LKA is activated along with the DRCC. If only the LKA button is pushed the corrective steering is not enabled.

My 178k gen 2 just got to the yellow warning on the original brake pads. I'm probably going to a gen4 sooner rather than later but part of that is that I refuse to replace my brakes ;)

I see a picture of my car at the bottom of this page. Do I get a fee?:D

I'm stunned, shocked, amazed, and baffled as to how long the brakes last in a Prius. That's great! Are you folks doing anything special? I assume lots of coasting, and a light touch on the pedal? I need more practice, and quit driving my car like I'm in a '74 Mercury.
