I'll be keeping mine for three years, mind it is a lease. In the UK a lot of people change every 3 years, just before the care is due an MOT.

For what cars cost these days, leasing looks more and more attractive. I've purchased all of my cars new since 1979. I try to keep them a long time to lower the total cost. I also take good care of them. This is the most expensive car I've ever bought. I did buy a truck back in 2001 that was a little higher.

I've only just turned to leasing with ordering my Prius, I wasn't due to replace my car for another 12 mths but my work introduced a leasing scheme that depending on the CO2 levels of the car could save you significant money. Normally I wouldn't of considered a car the size of a Prius as it would mean paying more than I would normally be prepared to. Because of the low CO2 levels it's meant I'm paying out inc running costs the same as my Yaris.

Thinking 6 years. At the rate the mileage is piling up I will be at 180,000 by then.

Until the Tesla Model 3 comes to me. I'm in the 150k range so I'm thinking in 3-4 years from now.

Fanatic, I am in the same boat , I happened to have gotten the 2 base model, but I wished I researched a bit more and gotten the advanced tech package after being acquainted with the car more. I will most likely upgrade to something else in couple/several years, and that could very well be a newer prius.

I usually keep my cars for about 4 or 5 years. I may keep the Prius a bit longer if it holds up ok. Toyota's are supposed to be pretty reliable (this is my first), so we'll see.

10-15 years, maybe more. This is my 2nd new car (all others were 15 years old when i bought them!), and i said the same about my first. But that was a Hyundai i20, a disappointing car from a disappointing company. I couldn't bear it for more than two and a half years. Cost me a crushing £9,000 in depreciation to ditch the thing and drive away in my Prius, but never been happier.
Just treated us to PR16USS, so the longer i keep her, the better value that registration will prove!

Select your car on th Fuelly website and go down the page to the log book, underneath is some small text click on the text that says badges. This will take you to the signature page, depending on if you want a large or a small banner copy the relevent BBcode and then paste that into your Prius Chat signature in your profile.

Well my plan is to keep the Prius for a long time, hopefully around 10 years. My sister has an 07 Prius and she's had minimal issues with it. I think outside of normal maintenance she had to replace a water pump which is reasonable for as long as she's had it. I think the only looming fears about an aging hybrid is something like an inverter or transaxle failure... Batteries you typically have a heads up on before they fail completely.

Me, I have had a lot of cars in my time. I have had, counting the new Prius, 7 cars. Of course the revolving debt surrounding cars is catching up and finally seeing the light on the stupidity of changing cars frequently. So I traded in the Challenger for another Prius. I think it is more practical and the cars have been on the market long enough to know that these cars will last a long time as long as you perform the required, basic, maintenance. These are efficient, practical cars that require almost no maintenance. While other cars are faster, more fun to drive and have all sorts of bell in whistles I think you'll find that the maintenance is more expensive. I'll give you an example. My el cheapo Pontiac G3 I had back in 2009. Cheap car, yes, but the maintenance it needed costs out the wazoo. Timing belts, transmission flushes, wheel bearings, breaks, new radiator, valve pan cover gaskets, O2 sensors and having to recharge the AC all pretty much hit me all at once... I decided to trade it in praying the damn thing would make it to the Toyota dealer when I bought the Prius C.

Bottom line is I have lost all faith in domestic cars, with the possible exception of Ford....but if I ever decide to buy a truck probably be a Tacoma, that thing was fun to drive while the Prius C was at the dealer with warranty repairs -- For those who are curious. When I had the Prius C a coolant leak developed at around 25k miles (I think). The way it was designed required much of the top of the engine to be replaced. If it was out of warranty probably would have cost around $1500. So always keep an eye under the hood, while they told me this is an odd and rare issue you never know what might crop up. So keeping my fingers crossed on this one. I hope it ends up being very reliable and so far very happy with it.

I don't understand leasing, because your making a payment for the rest of your life? Don't you ever want to be debt free, and NOT have a car payment?

What is "Fuelly", and why do people use it?
    Thanks.

No, leasing isn't forever. I leased a few cars - pay nothing up front, make the equivalent of a monthly/fortnightly repayment for 3 years, at the end, there is what (here) they call a balloon payment - of maybe 12-30% - it's all pre-arranged and written in the agreement. It's sort-of like a car loan, except you pay the deposit at the end rather than at the beginning.

But in accounting terms, it's very different from a loan - and, depending on your country and tax rates etc, can effect a tax saving. As such, for retirees, it's generally not a viable option.

Well, let's hope those people are being wise, and saving their money so they can AFFORD that big balloon payment at the end! :)

But here in the US, I doubt that many people BUY the car after the lease expires... probably NONE! We are a sad, sorry, miserable, debt-driven society! :ROFLMAO: People here, just keep leasing and leasing and leasing.... and they have a car payment their entire life. To each his own.

I plan to drive my Prius into the ground, so 10-15 years. That's basically what I did with my first car, a 2000 Chevy Impala, which I traded in for my Prius. In fact, I probably could have driven the Impala longer, but it needed new tires and brake pads and the check engine light had been on for a long time... It was just easier to get a new car!
