    Hi Gang,

Just a note about my 2nd oil change. Did it myself again. I bought my car new August of last year (2015). First oil change I did at 10,000 miles and I didn't like how dark the oil was. It was a dark brown. So, I just did it at another 5,000 miles and it was lighter this time with a reddish tint. Seemed cleaner though. So, I am going to change my oil every 5,000 miles. Removing the filter the this time was much easier than the first time. There is no reason in the world for the filter cap to be on so tight. Changed with Mobil 1 full synthetic 0-20w with 4.4 quarts. My mileage is at 14,246 right now.

Sounds good. I decided I'm going to have mine changed every 5K.

(It gives me something to do... I'm a bored retired guy. :D)

why not use your free oil changes at Toyota?

I did my first oil change at 3000 miles. Then let Toyota do the one at 1 year mark. No need to waste the free stuff

I went ahead and paid for the first one, at 4,950 miles. The dealer can do the next one for free. But it's not really "free" as I'm going to buy and bring my own oil... exactly 4.4 quarts of Penzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic.

And while I'm there, I like to walk around and look at all the new cars/trucks. And look in the parts department. And have a Starbucks coffee. And a Subway sandwich. And a couple of their free donuts.... And watch TV.
    It's better than home!

I don't think you need to bring them any oil. If you're going 5000 miles with the oil, it doesn't really matter what they use.

you can leave it dry lol. You probably can use any oil, it really never gets used. But you're one of those rich guys that let others do your oil change.....so it probably doesn't matter

You are right, JC. He told me they use Mobil-1 on the "free" change, because Toyota is paying for it and they are in kahoots with Mobil. (Nothing wrong with Mobil-1.)

If you PAY for the oil change, they use Pennzoil Platinum because Pennzoil is a sponsor for Penske Racing, and Roger Penske is the owner of the dealership I go to. Kind of confusing, huh? But I'm fine with either Mobil or Pennzoil.

I fondly recall the days of my youth.... when I could do all the routine Maint myself. Now days, I can barely put my pants on after having too many spine surgeries. But anyway, it's 50 bucks well-spent to maintain my new (and first!) Pre-Eye. ;)

    Did you really own SEVEN?

I'm hardly rich. I was a lowly, public civil-servant, with a pension that just about covers my 3 trips a month to McDonald's for coffee and an egg McMuffy....

I took a serious look at the hybrid Camry. But that crazy looking white Gen4 Prius won out.
