Did they give you a quote for the install? All things considered, why not do an end-run around all the questions, have them do the install? There are advantages:

    1. The onus is on them to hand you back a fully functional car.
    2. The warranty's likely more air-tight, less contestable, if there are future problems.
    3. They're experienced and the best candidates to do this. (Well, knock-on-wood...)

I like the challenge of DIY. Plus, I have not had any dealership touch Yoda except once four years ago when I had the HV inverter electric water pump replaced free of charge.

And you know what? The technician neglected to remove a hose clamp he/she used when swapping in the new pump. The first thing I did when I went to get my car was pop the hood and look at their repair. If I had driven it that way, can you guess what would have happened? A technician should check that all of his tools are accounted for at the end of a repair - this dipstick obviously didn't.

While I know that there are many technicians who are undoubtedly capable to do this swap I don't trust them considering what could happen. Imagine this scenario: well ah sir, we installed your new pack but there appear to be other issues with the hybrid system that are not functioning properly that we will need to troubleshoot. What do you do then? They have you by your orbs.

is the core charge to make sure most used packs get recycled properly?

That is correct, b. But only when a retail customer buys a pack outside of warranty as was pointed out earlier in this thread. Warranty replacement is a whole different ball game since Toyota pays for the new pack then.

Another reason for my concern/caution. Dealerships playing games it seems. Kenrico posted this about four months ago.

It is possible that my dealer checked the modules after I left. But who cares. I got my core fee back and they got a complete battery. All is good, eh?

I don't think the dealer pays a core deposit with their parts warehouse but I don't know. And I don't really care. Not my business.

The new battery was installed by the dealer, hence no core charge.

I was reading what was being said at the time - I do not have 1st hand knowledge. I have a pack that is not been to dorman , but somebody had been in it repeatedly long before me..a couple of the bottom screws are broke .. I didn't think my pack would qualify for a dealer core .

After reading this new thread , have better hope now for my el yonke pack ..have replaced over half the cells - and kept the old ones if I can score a real core myself .

Either to turn in without a prob on a new dlr pack one or ... keep one reconditioned on the bench for myself or someone in need.
