Just finished installing mine...all and all less than an hour. However, I made a stupid mistake of scratching the switch control around the steering wheel....those damn plastics are easy to be scratched up. Thinking of replacing it....if I find one of course....

Thanks for the great write up....

So I've just installed the wheel, and mine looks the same as everyone's else's. :) with the same slight alignment problem. But with one extra annoyance: there's a rattling inside somewhere and I can't figure out what is making that noise. I thought it was the air bag not locking into the clips or maybe a loose screw but everything is tight. Double checked. Anyone have any ideas? It's a rattle and not a squeak, seems to occur at high speeds and unsmooth road surfaces...

I have the normal wheel too, no sporty curves

Maybe a wire or connector rattling against a cover? Make sure everything is tucked away nicely before installing the covers.

Yeah I checked those too, didn't solve the problem.

I found the culprit! As I first suspected, it's one of the pins holding the airbag (left and right). The right pin is more loose than the left pin. It's vibrating back and forth. I'm not quite sure how to tighten other than stretching the pin? Or I could always just stick something in between so it won't vibrate. Here's a pic: my wheel and the pin that keeps vibrating.

There are two springs which help hold the wheel on. They're the springs you have to pop off with a screwdriver from both sides of the wheel. They are sort of long wires, or clips, than springs. But they can pop out of place, and it sounds like one of them is out of place. I think you need to pop the wheel off and check those springs.

Yes, I think it's more likely the spring clip I mentioned than the pin. Are you sure it's the pin that's wiggling around?

@xliderider @Rebound Thanks:) Rebound, you're correct. I would call it a pin more than a spring, springs we usually associate with skinny coiling shape. Maybe wire clip is a better term. :) Long story short: I must have knocked it out of shape when using the flat head to pop off the air bag. To fix: I simply took the clip out and bent it inward to tighten. No more rattle:) perfect.

What's funny is looking back at my pictures, those weren't the original clips. To avoid this problem for future Prius owners, maybe you should use the old clips from the stock steering wheel.

Yeah, they came with the clips in already. Didn't notice them before. Its probably better to stick with your old clips anyway, these clips were super loose creating the rattle. I bent them inwards to tighten their hold.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I swapped out the crappy rubber steering wheel for a leather one this weekend. Took less than an hour, and that was with a number of self-inflicted delays.

Do any of these steering wheels fit a second gen Prius (my 2008)? Looking to get a better steering wheel.

Does anyone know where I can get
Does anyone know where I can find the link to the Japanese photo instructions or removing the wheel? The link at the beginning of this thread no longer works.
