    Hi all,

We have a 2010 Prius with 106k miles that we purchased new. We did the scheduled maintenance once or twice early in its life, but since then, we've pretty much just changed the oil.

Do you have any recommendations about maintenance that we should consider at this time? It looks like it has a timing chain, not a timing belt, so is that something we don't need to worry about?

    Thanks,
    Greg

No belts to change. Some I can think of, in diminishing order of importance, and check when they're scheduled.:

Transaxle fluid change. Brake inspection. Brake fluid change. Coolant change (engine and inverter). Spark plug change. Throttle body cleaning.

welcome! air and cabin filters. who's changing your oil, are you checking the level at each fill up? there's really nothing important until 120k. its all in your maint. manual, all the best.(y)

If you have only done oil changes, you are way behind on oil filters and air filters.

Pretty safe bet the oil filter is getting changed too. But yeah.

I am stuck assuming he told the truth. I honestly believe he 'forgot' to mention oil and air filters, but he says not.

With 100k miles plus, the most important maintenance to do is check your oil level once a week, These cars tend to burn oil at around this mileage. Also you should change the transmission fluid. Dealer should not charge more then $100.00 for this. Change the oil every 5K miles and trans fluid every 30K miles and that should help keep your car on the road.

oil change should be every 10k miles... 5k is wasting oil.
Also, your car shouldn't be burning oil, if it is, I would check with the dealership. Mines at 114k and not burning oil. I would suspect a worn out piston ring. I think there is a TSB about engine burning oil as well. Once that happens, the engine usually get replaced if its really bad.

Thank you for the feedback, I'll consider it all along with my manual's maintenance schedule.
