Here a screenshot from the said video

And two more pictures, the lower one being the best I've seen so far.

So indeed, the booth space is flat, but it seems quite deep (or longue, what is right?) and large to me. I hope having the numbers from Paris soon. Some volunteers offered help.

In Japan, the option of CHAdeMO charging will be available. That's the place it would be located, a second port like Leaf offers.

That's what I thought, but why not swap one or the other in he same port?

They are not compatible charging technologies. You'd be sacrificing the ability to recharge at home or elsewhere, since CHAdeMO is quite different from the level-1 and level-2 systems we currently use.

And in Europe, a Type 2 connector (Mennekes) for Mode 3 charging resides next to the J1772 that accepts a portable EVSE like the one you are using (but rated 230V).

The Prime is a one speed, direct drive EV for the most part. The Ioniq PHV might make use of the transmission in EV. Different gear ratios could offset the lower power. It is also a smaller and lighter car.

What about the second PSD in Prius? Doesn't that make it a two speed?

Is that in EV Auto mode? Must be. I've seen figures like that on blended mode in the PiP using OBD II data.

With the ICE 'locked', the PSD is fixed.

This is NEDC score and it is really useless as it does not take into account electricity consumed! simply distance driven divided by actual gasoline consumed on this track.
Driving to work on all-EV will result zero liters per 100 by this calculation!

NEDC is outdated and needs update/refreshment, especially (but not only) for plug-ins.

Do not know the details of the Ioniq transaxle but it seems to me counter-intuitive to use step gears for multiplying torque of an electric motor, why lowering motor speed 4 or 6 times during one acceleration?
BEVs do not use step gears transmissions, even the 'performance' ones do not.

This is also the case for the PHEV of Audi and VW. It is inherent to the electric motor being integrated into the double clutch transmission. It allows for greater speeds in EV mode. For exemple, the electric motor on the BMW 225xe is on the rear axis, and can only be used until 125 km/h. Beyond, the car becomes a normal gas fuel car, propelled by the ICE, just much heavier and consuming more then the non-hybrid version...

I think the only BEV that used any transmission was the original Tesla Roadster. I believe they used a 2 speed transmission. Now they can produce motors tuned for specific capabilities.

There is no transaxle in the sense of Toyota's, Ford's, and GM's hybrid. For the Sonata, the traction motor, and a couple clutches, replace the torque converter between the engine and regular step transmission. Note: it is not a weak hybrid like Honda's old IMA. The Ioniq uses a double clutch transmission, but I'm not sure if the motor is as integrated as it is in Honda and VW system.

Since the PHEV is using the same system as the hybrid, just a more powerful motor, making use of the transmission makes sense. It saves weight and cost by allowing a smaller motor than what the Prime or Volt needs for EV mode. Not needing an ICE, the Ioniq BEV will just have a motor with direct drive.

Tesla abandoned the 2 speed motor for the Roadster in development. They couldn't make one that could withstand the forces over time.

AC motors are fine for direct drive. DC motors are cheaper though, but would benefit from a multispeed transmission in order to match the AC motored car's efficiency. A couple auto parts suppliers are working 2 and 3 speed ones for this purpose. Most DIY BEV conversions were a DC motor bolted onto the manual transmission.

Are there no tie-down D-rings in the back deck of the Prime? I'm not seeing any in the photos.

No spare tire. No flat tire to carrier in back. No need to strap down said flat for safety. So no need for D-rings.

Very short sighted on Toyota's part. People carry things back there that could be dangerous or heavy if there's an emergency stop or an accident.

Case in point... say I place a 2.5 gallon gas can back there so I can get gas for the lawn mower. I need that to not fall over or move at all. Or I want to drive the Al-Can highway. I want to at least have a donut spare with me. What about heavy luggage?.

I wonder if I drill and install my own D-rings on the side? Anyone know what is involved?
