depends on manufacturer... sometimes they also add storage under the boot floor. I read a magazine comparo in Autobild, where they compared Kia Ceed and Golf VII.... They had same paper spec, but Golf actually had 50l less than claimed while Kia had the same as claimed... but these things can be seen with plain eye.

Can't say for all of Europe but the sliding cover is standard on UK and Irish spec models. With those cargo space measurements I would always assume is not encroaching beyond what you can fit inside the boot/trunk (which would imply underneath the cover in the Prius) - but I don't know if there is any real standard of measurement here. I think with the 3rd gen Prius it did include usable space in the tray underneath the boot floor.

It's also worth noting the NEDC was created in 1970, and last updated in 1997 (before the first Prius made it to Europe). It's not designed for modern cars, never mind hybrids or PHEVs. Any figures you get from it are essentially fantasy. US EPA tests are much closer to reality.

I understand. But I was mentioning it so that Americans don't jump on that 30 mile range as the range they'll see in the US.

Now I want to get a job in Marketing at Toyota, so I can fire the unimaginative weasel who couldn't think of anything better than PHV.

In Europe, the Prius PHV has adaptive quad LED, the adaptative functionality (also called matrix) not being offered in the USA/Canada. Is that correct?

I feel it is a big plus relative to the Gen 4 Prius.

Yes thats correct, not in USA. DOT has not approved them. I don't know about Canada.

I believe Canada allows complying with either US or European lighting standards...

Yes, we got Matrix LED and expensive solar option BUT it seems most (if not all) of europe doesnt get 11" screen, even as an option... or at least i did not see it anywhere. Seems like 8" like in C-HR is only option.

That blue car is the only European spec Prius PHV that has been shown to anyone so far. An Auto Express review also shows the same car: New Toyota Prius Plug-in hybrid 2016 review | Auto Express

EDIT: On closer inspection it seems that's a US spec model

It's normal that we have to wait a while for any RHD models to make an appearance, and sale of cars in RHD markets is often delayed (not so much with Japanese cars).

The Toyota blog is showing a European car, though - 8" infotainment (and AFAICT it's Toyota Touch 2 with Go (what they get in Europe) instead of Entune), and dual-zone HVAC.

Yes, that was a European spec car (just not the same as the one in Auto Express).

    Two questions.
    1. Re battery conditioning in cold weather, it says this happens if the vehicle is on charge. If the vehicle does not get charged every day, and the is car driven with a cold battery on a cold day where conditioning would kick in if it was being charged, what are the consequences? Will it still function in EV mode?
    2. It says there is a mode to charge the traction battery using the ICE. Can't see the point of that. Any ideas?
