Is this really an issue, you bought a car for the USA market and shows MPH. I don't believe all cars sold in the USA show speed in kilometers. You can always do the math in your head........

Canadian law does not apply in the US. I think Toyota failed to reveal a material fact they deleted the English to metric unit option in this vehicle. That may violate Michigan consumer protection regulations. The Detroit International Auto Show is where I saw the 2016 Prius on display. Detroit is about five minutes from Canada. I purchased this vehicle for distance driving across North America, especially Canada and the United States.

When I purchased the vehicle this year in February, I have already created the sticky note. The sticky note solution, however, does not update my navigation unit or odometer or speed control. When you pay $1,935.00 extra to get the Toyota Prius advanced technology package, you expect features to work as advertised or Toyota will fix them under the Toyota factory warranty. Having a new 2016 Prius that can not switch between English and metric units is not "advanced technology."

Like defective Toyota airbag inflators or defective parking brakes, this speedometer issue may affect thousands of other Toyota vehicles.

Living in Michigan, many people commute to and from Canada daily. Although commuting across a border may not be an issue to you, it is for me. Apparently, it also is an issue for Toyota as they do not want to correct this problem but advise I should purchase another 2016 Prius to replace my 2016 Prius.

You live in the USA, you bought a car that is sold in the USA. How many people live near the boarder and never drive in Canada or Mexico. If the maximum speed limit in Canada is 120 kilometers you know not to exceed 75 MPH.

Sounds like Toyota is being sarcastic in saying buy another 2016 with the proper program....but I am sure they were thinking that one does not need kilometers if sold in USA.

I do not have the answer to your question of how many people live near the border and never drive in Canada or Mexico. Maybe someone else knows that answer. Becuase I travel extensively, I cross borders as well as state boundries.

Please remember, Toyota shows this feature in their 2016 Prius owner's manual on page 140. Link to the 2016 Prius owner's manual here: http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM47A29U/pdf/OM47A29U.pdf.

This English to metric unit problem also affects the voice prompts in the navigation system since units are in miles, not kilometers. If Toyota deletes features in their owner's manual, I would expect a clear and conspicuous consumer disclosure.

Have you tried speaking with Toyota USA and see if they can do anything?

Yes. I called Toyota who advised visiting a Toyota dealer. The first Toyota dealer said he was not going to write up a repair order because there was nothing they could do to fix it. I then visited the dealer where I purchased my 2016 Prius. We checked out vehicles on the lot and determined that the Prius built in February had the same problem. This problem was dcorrected on the Prius built in June and July. The dealer then called Toyota who told the dealer that this problem could not be fixed and there was no software upgrade that Toyota had. According, the solution to fix my 2016 Prius is to purchase another 2016 Prius.

The Toyota warranty manual includes the "lemon laws" across the United States. This information also refers to the National Center for Dispute Settlement. More information: NCDS - Automotive Warranty Disputes

The National Center for Dispute Settlement website has a Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc, Customer Claim Form to request a hearing. On their form, I would choose for a resolution, "replacement". If anyone else has the same problem, here is a link to the Toyota customer claim form: http://www.ncdsusa.org/documents/TMS%20Customer%20Claim%20Form.pdf

I would call Toyota directly and advise them of the situation and warn them that this needs to be addressed or you will seek legal action.

Toyota knows about this problem because the service department at my Toyota dealer called them yesterday. Toyota does not seem to care. After waiting over six months for my rebooting navigation system to be repaired, and two vehicle safety recalls that have no current remedy and my speedometer and navigation system that can not be switched from English units to metric units, I do not think Toyota is customer focused.

When purchasing a Toyota, how does a consumer know what features are added or deleted? The Monroney sticker on my new 2016 Prius did not have a disclosure of the deletion of English to metric units. Since the date of purchase, I have had this issue that was not resolved when Toyota did an update to their software for the rebooting navigation unit.

Again, you should call, it makes more of an impact if you call, not the dealer. Tell them you want to meet with a regional manager to discuss and resolve this issue. Let them know you would hate for this issue to be made public to the media.

Good idea orenji. Yesterday, the dealer said a regional manager was at the dealership. I don't know if they asked this person about this issue. With two current safety recalls on the 2016 Prius, who knows if Toyota even cares about media coverage. However, Car and Driver Magazine has their headquarters in my town. It would be easy for me to drive over to their office to demonstrate my Toyota vehicle issues to an editor.

I'd suggest sticking with the "this is a dumb issue to have" because you got a point there. But saying it's dangerous is laughable.

Likewise, I checked this morning UK time, and it didn't show up. However, Toyota GB now state that it qualifies for the recall.

Thank You. I had no idea. I tested it on an empty hill tonight, and voila, it didn't roll back. Although, weirdly, it creeped a little bit forward when releasing the footbrake before it 'held' without any intervention by me. I forgot to check, would it still illuminate the brake lights?

Ditto just got around to checking it. Mine has it as well.

I suspect that no, the brake lights will not illuminate although I've never tested. my thought process is that in my other cars hitting the brake, even with the ignition off, lights up the brake lights. I'm pretty sure that I've noticed the brake lights light up in my garage just before I press the power button.

So what's up with the parking brake? Mine works good.
