I thought there was unused space under the rear seats that could have fit the batteries? Regardless, I agree that it should have been engineered more thoughtfully.

I consider the raised floor to negatively affect function because it makes sleeping in the rear difficult since there is now a transition between the hatch floor and the folded seat backs. My PiP is flat, so the Prime should be too.

Interesting. Back then, there wasn't even such a term. I guess I used it with incorrect context. We called the effort to hold back and mislead about the technology "undermining".

All those years ago, the concept of "green" itself was different. People focused almost entirely on MPG. It was all about using less gas... regardless of how much you'd try to emphasize the reduction of smog-related emissions. You'd get downplay at best. The topic of carbon-related emissions was outright dismissed.

Now, the idea of "green" is just the collective effort to "be like Prius". The overwhelming success of the Toyota technology it uses leaves the spotlight on Prius. The other hybrid offerings simply don't get the same recognition. So, we just lump together the advantages of reduced consumption & emissions into a single acknowledgement.

Even more interesting is how "EV efficiency" is now coming into play for Prime... with will also be a trait of Prius. Being able to squeeze out so much from that size battery will get the "greenwash" treatment too. Look at how a few have already made the claim that 25 miles won't be easy to achieve and try to downplay the advantage of having a vapor-injected heat-pump.

How do we more accurately portray all those benefits? Ordinary consumers simply don't have the background to even know what to look for. It's very easy to deceive an audience like that. Calling "greenwash" is the environmental equivalent of raising a red flag. Basically, we need to educate so people don't take what they read at face value.

I slipped into watching a series of Youtubes on fighter jets last night (gonna blame the "none of these posts count" thread), and it occurred to me that's where they're getting a lot of front "bumper" cues these days. These silly matt-black faux "intake ports". Oh, and the Lexus Predator maws...

    The choice is balance.

Toyota strives to find it. They don't sacrifice like we've seen with other automakers. That's why we get a nicer look.

I'm not sure what aspect you actually find "ugly" either. Do you think the busy front will lose out over the plain look people have become accustomed to? Or is it something with the dual-wave back?

There is a photo of a slide from a GM presentation gave to dealers of the months for when the states should expect the 2016 Volt.

Fighters have been a design source since after WWII. The Mustang was named after the plane.

Yes, it's too busy and it looks like a frankenstein thing where different parts were just slapped together without thought. I think the quad headlamps look great, but everything below them is just a mess. I've become accustomed to it since I've looked at it so often, but it's not pleasing or exciting. I don't like the tail lights either, they may actually be uglier than the front. But I don't have to look at it when I'm driving, so really, the looks aren't that important to me. The looks are not going to change my mind one way or the other for a purchase decision. That will be based purely on efficiency, driveability, seat comfort, and practicality.

As far as the double-bubble back window, I would prefer a flat window with a wiper. Ever back up in the rain/snow? Can't always use the back up camera then either. The dual-wave spoiler piece doesn't affect me one way or the other. I'm concerned about repair costs/supply time should the rear glass break, as well as for minor fender benders with all those lights so low in the bumper corners.

If the prime looked like a P-51D I'd be first in line to buy one.

i don't like the profile either. it looks like they took the from end from one car, and welded it to the body of another.

When you can't, that's what the side mirrors and lower-window are for.

The upper-window doesn't get cleared with snow anyway. The little area below the wiper holds quite a bit. So, I look forward to seeing if the dip on the middle serves to funnel.

If they wanted to "slow move" this into the country, to just certain places, why put the "Build a Prime" at the front of the Toyota web site?

You kidding me? The profile is the best part, you don't see the front or the back!

Just joking, it may not be the most attractive car on the road, but it's far from the ugliest.

Building up interest takes a surprisingly long time.

For example, every single pickup truck is far worse. That really does look like two different vehicles welded together, probably because it is.

I think it is beautiful...(does that move me to the front of the line to get one?)

I like that it looks weird. In my view, the weirder, the better. I remember some story about when the Prius first came out and other car companies were releasing hybrids that didn't look like hybrids (probably Honda). They said people liked the uniqueness of the Prius because it held them out as greener-than-thou.

I think South Park did a show on that a few years back.

Will we still get to give the secret Prius wave to another Prius on the road or will there be a new signal for the Prime?

Maybe that was just because Oregon doesn't have a sales tax. Perhaps you can pay your own state sales tax if you have one, and have to pay the sales tax in the state you purchase in if your state has none.

How would CA know you were from out of state? How would your state know you bought a new car and charge sales tax?

I don't know how sales taxes work since I've never paid them for anything non-trivial. I just know AZ wanted to charge me a sales tax if I bought within their state and did not deliver out of state.

If you have a secret wave, then I'm guessing there aren't many Prii in your area. Every 10th vehicle here is a Prius, so your arm would get tired from all the waving.
